Question Poss. Trouble Coming

I have noticed over that last couple days, my Jag is taking longer to start? Normally, it fires right up, but now, not so much. I am thinking I need a new battery. It looks like the original one. My Jag has 89,000 miles on her. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Do you mean it is cranking slower then normal, or turning over more the normal? But if original Batt, then I'd replace for sure just cause. These cars hate bad batt.s

I'd look at your plugs n coils if that be the case. That'd be my first guess, other issues could cause this... but less common as far as I know. I'd still think about a new batt though.

When was your last plug change? If it's been a while I'd pull 1 or 2 and check the condition and gap.

If the battery is more than 3-4 years old, just replace it. Mine had only 3 years on it when it went out last Jan. Cheap insurance.
Besides, a weak/bad battery will cause numerous other malfunctions.

I am the second owner of it and I got it with 87,000 miles on her. So I am not sure when the last time plugs were changed, I was planning on doing them at 90,000 miles, but I may need to do it a little sooner, just in case.

I will get a new battery this week for sure!!! The cheapest I found was around $130.00.

Search for battery replacment on here, you find MUCH cheaper alts... Wal-Mart for example. But at about 90k miles, I'd do plugs for SURE. coils too while I'm at it.

Er, plugs should have been done at 70K.

My first Jag was the same year and engine 01-3.0
I had the exact same problem. Turned out to be the fuel pump going away, after about a month of long cranking the fuel pump died on the road.
Just another FYI to look at.

That will be up to you, they are pricey when you add up 6 new coils.

The intake manifold has got to be removed to get to 2 of the 6 spark plugs. Sooooo you will need at the least upper intake (plenum) gaskets.

If I were in your shoes, I would remove the lower intake (just 4 more bolts and easy) and replace the little rubber elbow under the lower intake. If you decide to replace that elbow, you will have to get lower intake gaskets.
But alas, Fel-Pro makes all the aftermarket gaskets you will need.

Since you are going that far, I would consider ALL vacuum lines to be replaced as well. The MY 2000 thru 2002 are known for the lines to crack over time, and by messing with them whilest changing plugs they are apt to do so.
