Default Possible Vacuum Leak--Fix by Jag Tech Only?

Hi all,

Should I take my 2000 S-Type to a specialty Jag shop? It hesitates at 45-55 MPH, and has a rough idle. Now, the Check Engine light has come on. After perusing postings on here for a while, I think my problem is a vacuum leak, fuel injector clog, or possible coil issues.

I have a good shop where I take our Toyota, and who fixed a busted power steering line in the Jag. But from what I've been reading on here about my current issue, I wonder if I should bring the car to a specialist.

We have an independent Jag specialty shop here in town, plus another British auto specialty shop. My question is, is this a job my regular shop could do, or is this that it would be better to take to a specialty shop?

From my armchair, I will bet that the hose under the lower intake is causing the vacuum leak.

Codes?

Are you a DIYer?

I am a junior DIYer...I've replaced both front window regulators (thanks to this forum) and the cabin filter...but I don't really have great tools or a garage. I checked out the links for replacing the small L-Joint hose under the intake manifold, but that is pretty well beyond my abilities.

I'll go over to O'Reilly and see if I can get some codes.

Surging could be a torque converter issue (hopefully not) or more like one intermitient failing coil (especially with the rough idle you described) - I would look to getting each coil tested utilizing a COP (Coil On Plug) tester - you might be surprised what you find regarding the coils.

If the coils check out - then venture looking for a vacuum leak.
