Default Problem with engine turning over

03 S-Type. Car has been sitting for a few months and will not turn over. I charged the battery and there is full power. The starter coils seem to be working fine. It seems that no gas is getting combusted. I have read that you don't prime a fuel injection system but it seems that is what it needs. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanx!

What is your battery reading on your handheld volt meter? Just because the one on the dash may say 12v, it may not truly be enough to crank the engine to a high enough RPM to turn it over.

'Not turning over' usually means that the engine is not rotating with the starter motor at all. This does not seem to be your case and that your is indeed turning over, but not starting.

Not sure what 'starting coils' are- do you mean ignition coils? A fuel injected car does not need to be primed, nor is there any method of doing so.

It might be that your battery was damaged beyond repair and as mentioned above might not be strong enough to get the job done.

While someone turns key to start, observe if fuel pours out of shrader valve on fuel rail. If battery is strong, air may have displaced fuel in the fuel rail. Somone please correct me if I'm wrong...hold gas pedal to floor (don't pump pedal) while cranking to both purge air and clear fuel from combustion chamber.

If it was running prior to being parked and now won't start, try the battery and starting with the pedal in the WOT position as the guys have already called out.

If none of that works see if you can get her to growl to life with a shot or two of carb cleaner directly into the intake, maybe she just needs to clear her throat...

Unfortunately, I have found with the S Types after sitting for a few months (for some reason) the fuel pump goes to crap - I have read of many instances of this - including my own experience.

Turn the ignition key on and hook up a fuel pressure gauge via the Schrader Valve - you should see at least 40 lbs of fuel pressure. (If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge - you can check fuel pressure by depressing the Schrader Valve - have many towels and be very careful!) Fuel should spray out, if it dribbles - not good!

If you find you have no fuel pressure - check interia switch and fuses and relays associated with the fuel pump - but you might find it's time to change out the fuel pump.

Also, when is the last time you changed out the fuel filter? That is a cheap DIY option - when changing the filter out - if you find dark brown, brackish or any sort of debris coming out of the fuel filter - this will indicate a dead or a critically injured fuel pump.

PS - If the starting fluid turns the engine over as cbharley10 suggested - this would be another BIG indicator of no fuel pressure.

Ok open to corrections :
Isnt it wiser to start from :
0:Listen to fuel pump when ignition is turned on (js remembered this)
1: Check immobiliser light if its not blinking continuously(I overlooked this and it was the cause of my problem a week/2 ago.
2: Checking battery as suggested(But if its cranking guess there is enough volts
3: Spray easy start in carb as suggested by Cbhaley and if it doesnt start even 2/3sec then
4: Check spark plugs
5: Then Fuel delivery maybe ............
Good Luck but i would start with Immobiliser light on dash if it was me.Would have saved me @least 4 hours messing about checking the secondary troubleshoot when mine didnt start.
