Unhappy Programming Key FOB 2000 S-type

I bought a 2000 Jaguar S-type about 2 weeks ago, my second car and first Jag, so I'm still learning the ins and outs, however love the car and am stoked to own one

Anyways, I came across a post on how to program a new key FOB for an X-type, Im not too sure if is a different process for an S-type, but if it is does anyone know what it may be?

So I inserted the key in the ignition (it is a Valet key, the only key I have for the car, I have no idea whether or not that would affect the programming) and turned it from "I" to "II" back and forth four times, and at any point I did not hear anything or notice anything happening to the alarm system, so I repeated the process and tried pressing the FOB buttons for the sake of it without any luck.

Will I need to take my car to a locksmith/dealer to program the remote I just bought or is there anyway I can set it up myself?

Kindest Regards
Justin

Hi Justin,

The key/fob needs to be programmed at the dealer or via a Diagnostic machine (such as WDS)

The 2000-2002 S-Type keys can be configured to the car IF............
You have 2 original keys programmed to the car from the factory or using dealer level equipment.

You insert 1 original key, turn to ON then OFF.
Insert the second ORIGINAL key and turn ON then OFF.
Insert the non programmed key, turn ON then OFF.

The 3rd key will start the car but can NEVER be used to program another key to the car.
To program a 4th key (or a 5th) you must use the 2 original keys (not the 3rd one you programmed).

Hope this helps.
