Default Radio Faulty

Trying to trace a battery drain on a 2000MY S-type.

I have been using an inline type current tester (the sort that replaces the fuse and measures he current being drawn by each circuit).

After pulling various fuses I got to fuse number 18 in the passenger compartment which supplies the permanent 12v feed to the radio, navigation and telephone.

My car only has the basic radio, no nav / phone / voice, but still seems to be pulling near 1.3amp via that fuse even when the ignition is off and the key removed.

I have completely disconnected the radio and the current reading instantly drops to 0.

Is it safe to assume that there is a fault in the radio causing the battery drain, as to me that seems rather high.

Yes. I think you did a very good job of troubleshooting.

Are you going to replace it with a stock or aftermarket unit?

Aftermarket will get you more for your money.

I am thinking of replacing with another stock unit, as I already have an iPod interface that will work.
