Rear Electronic Module -REM-
Hi all,
I have an S-Type 2001 my and last week had problem with rear left lamp issues.
I went to a Jag workshop and after installing a used rem the problem fixed. Anyway the thing is that i want to find out what is wrong with that module (i took the faulty one). I have some basic electronic skills but im not expert.
The question is , if anyone knows where can i find the electronic diagram of that module.(not the car's electric diagram but the internal module diagram). I tryed the internet with no luck.
Any ideas?

2000 S-Type REM
Have the same problem, after checking and replacing a couple of bulbs without solving problem, went to the dealer. Says it's the REM and a new one would be $1200 with programming. I said "Thanks, but no thanks"...
My question is, if I put in a salvaged unit, and assuming it's in good condition, is any "programing" required?? Can I plug in and go??? We are the original owners (and retired) and I try to do as much of the maintenance work myself....lots of free time, but little money!!!

2000 S-Type REM
Bought a used REM on Ebay for $79, free shipping!! Unfortunately got it a few days before having complete hip replacement surgery and did not want to risk installing it at that time. Surgery was on June 24 and wife continuing to drive car with just "Left Tail Light" faulty message.
Yesterday (July 11) had my first post surgery appointment with Doc and driving home the gas gauge needle was continuing to go to zero and back to 3/4 tank! Then the flasher speeded up when the left turn signal was turned on!!! WTF, poltergeist????? Now was the time to try the used unit!
Luckily, the used unit I bought had the electrical plugs attached (the wires were cut to remove the unit). There were a couple of 4-wire, "spade-type" connections that were proving difficult to remove until I sprayed them with Liquid Wrench and let them sit a few minutes. I had to use the same procedure to remove the bad unit from our car and avoided breaking the connectors which do become brittle with time. The pin-type connectors disconnected easily.
I had a list of concerns about installing the used unit:
Would our keys require reprogramming?
Would the security alarm stay on when the battery was reconnected?
Would the locks work remotely?
If the used Jag had been in a wreck, would the used REM set off the air bags?
If the junked car had other accessories that we did not have like rear fog lights, would a message appear that the rear fog light were faulty?
Would our actual mileage be maintained?
Would reprogramming be required just to start and drive our Jag?
Thankfully none of the above problems occurred and everything worked except one back up light which I will check this evening to see if it is the bulb. Keeping our fingers crossed for now. I do have a local shop that specializes in "European Autos" and can reprogram our REM for $120 or maybe less since he also quoted installation of our used REM purchased from Ebay.
So, all my concerns did not happen and it appears to be a "Plug and Go" with the proper used REM unit.

Yes, I was told by a dealer and another shop that the REM was programmable using their equipment.
I also forgot to mention another problem that cropped up with the original REM. When the ignition key was turned off and removed, several of the tail lights would not go out. That forced me to replace the REM this morning to avoid battery drain when my wife drove and parked it at work this morning.
