Default Rear license plate bracket?

Okay, so the car is made for the world. I get that. Which explains why, when attempting to put plates on the rear of the car, there are several pairs of holes all with black stickers covering them. I presume to fit plates from all over the world. But the previous owner of my ride didn't use any of the marked spots, instead drilling into the trunk. Unbelievable. So, I know that is not right, but under the black sticker where my plates would fit is a square hole. That suggest to me that there is a bracket with fittings that bolts into the trunk, then the plate would screw into the bracket. Alot like what is going on in the front of the car.

Is there a rear license plate bracket?

I'd have to go pull mine off to look as I don't recall any problems with this, but usually the square holes are just meant to hold a plastic insert. The bolt/screw holding the plate on is screwed into that insert.

You can get the inserts at any auto parts store.

No bracket, the square holes accommodate these:

Thanks. Yes, I am familar with those plastic inserts, but then isn't everyone, especially the dealer that delivered the Jag? Why would anyone drill through the sheet metal when that solution was so readily available and cheap? I thought surely there must be a bracket. But if it ever comes up again later...NO BRACKET

Thanks again, we can put this topic to bed.

Who knows why people do what they do...For the life of me I don't know why someone would drill new holes, that's just beyond stupid. Ah well - you got it sorted out. I'd think about at least coating those holes with grease or something or fill/paint them to keep the rust monsters at bay.

Clear nail polish is great for stuff like that....

Take care,

George

Actually yeah... My gf had it on the kitchen counter once, and I was looking for a quick solution to cover a paint chip so it wouldn't rust and stole it!

She actually got mad, she was like if I knew you were going to use it on the car I would have given you the cheap one!

Take care,

George
