Default Recurring Bluetooth Problem....

Some of you may remember that our overhead Bluetooth microphone had to be replaced under warranty back in late May. It was intermittently fading out meaning that you could hear the other party over the car's audio system when they spoke, but the other party could not hear you when you spoke. After initially claiming "no trouble found", the dealership replaced our microphone after I did some research and showed them two similar cases where replacing the microphone fixed the issue both times. One of those cases was right here on this forum.

After less than two months with the new microphone in place, my wife reports that the same problem cropped up on multiple phone calls yesterday. I assume yet another new microphone under warranty is the fix.

I know these microphones are cheap, disposable components but this is ridiculous. We've got one more week of factory warranty remaining and I'm not willing to purchase a new microphone from Jaguar every couple of months going forward. I wonder if the Lincoln LS used the same microphone and whether or not it has a frequent failure history as ours seems to.

Has anyone else out there experienced this same Bluetooth microphone issue with your S-Type? Between the Bluetooth microphone and the fuel filler lid plastic pin assembly, these nagging problems that Jaguar just can't seem to resolve are significantly raising my wife's bitch-and-moan quota. I couldn't care less about Bluetooth, but it is a mandatory feature for her. Anyone out there got any good workaround ideas?

If it only happened on one day I'd be a bit reluctant to say it's the microphone or anything in the car.

Even if it is the car, it may be another component either that's damaging microphones or makes it seem like it's the microphone.

You could probably get hold of the LS diagrams and/or part numbers to see if they're the same as the Jag. You may be able to find LS forums with owners who can say what their experiences are.

BTW, I seriously doubt that the LS is as similar as some suggest.

Sorry, I don't have and wouldn't use a bluetooth or other phone as a driver due to the well-researched safety issues. So, I can't help beyond the above (if it's a help!).

Trying to add to your "database"...

Bought the 2005 S-Type 9 months ago. I use the Bluetooth connection several times a day, every day.

What I find a problem is that once a week or so the phone and the car didn't pair up although one or the other would show that they were connected. A hard reset of the phone has solved this every time. Now, if I think of it, I reset the phone as I drive out the driveway.

JagV8- Dead on. The LS and S share a common platform. Basic powertrain as well. The 8 is Jag and the 6 is (mostly) Ford. But even they are different, hence the different HP ratings for the V8 Lincolns vs the Jags. They also have different audio systems, and electronic sub-systems. One thing I find interesting is how many electronic systems are shared between the XJ and S type, but it is starting to make sense. I think pre 2003 S types had a lot more Ford content. If you look at the systems in a post 03 S and same year XJ, a bunch of them are common, making them cheaper to build. Jag was still struggling under Ford but they must have realized they couldn't "cheapen" the XJ. So, one way to help with costs was to start "sharing" components. One of the reason the sedan range of Jaguars all started to look very similar inside. This even goes for the X type.

Jeff - thanks for posting that. I had a look at the X-Type's electrical diagrams and also noted things like its instrument cluster diagnostics being mostly shared (and look to be mostly like the Ford Mondeo's). The more I look the more it brings home how much there is!! So, sharing some makes sense but once you want very different handling (STR is not an LS lol) some just has to be different. The XJ is quite a car.

Any idea where the XF fits in? And is it fully CAN for OBD?
