My 2000 3ltr s-type has developed a problem with the remote control. It sometimes opens or closes the doors on the first push of the relevant button but sometimes needs 8 or 10 presses and sometimes it needs so many I give up and use the key. Using the key always works . It also sometimes does not unlock the doors when the ignition is switched off when stopped. Sometimes the doors can be unlocked with the drivers door pull but sometimes I have to use the passenger door handle to unlock.
The problem is not consistant but has been getting worse recently.
The car is a manual with a genuine 37500 miles on the clock.
I have ordered a set of nylon tools for removing the door cards and some spare plastic clips but am not sure what I am looking for as the cause of the problems. Any thoughts?

 

It's liable to be the lock actuator so you might get a spare ready.

 

Before you go any further look and see which door handle (inside the car) is not locking properly when you press the remote. One of the little handles (locks) may not be going in completely. If that is not the case then look to see if one of them is slower than the rest.

When you find which one is not working correctly then you know where to start
