Replacing the Auxiliary coolant
My cars heather was blowing out cold air so I took it to the dealer for an inspection. They said I will have to change the Auxiliary coolant pump, and the cost would be $500. Has anybody else had a similar problem or had to change their Auxiliary coolant pump? This is my first car, so I am a bit confused as to how others approach problems like this? Because I found the part for $200 online.
Thank you.
Thank you.
somebody is going to ask you to put which year and type your S-Type is in the signature section of your profile before they can answer your question.
i am not familiar with the part on an S-Type but i got charged $400 for a waterpump and thermostat on an X type in Australia a few years ago - i would guess there would be some mark up and then there is labour. i think the going rate was $150.00 an hour.
someone here said it could be about half an hour to fit (on the X type). i don't know what the official time to fit such a part would be.
having said that - depending on which S-type you have - it could be a standard ford part which could cost less if it doesn't come in a box marked Jaguar.
Also Australia tends to be about double the price so it might pay to post your model year and type and wait for some more knowledgable folks to respond.

$500 is definitely the high end of the scale. At the other end, you could DIY and first check the fuse, then maybe fit new brushes to the motor, for just a few bucks. Someone on this forum has done it, so do a search. A new pump is around $200, I believe.
Thank you very much for your responses. I called a couple of more places and they are all asking for the same amount of money or more!! I think I will go ahead with the dealer.
Have a great rest of your week.
