Replacing the Throttle Body: How difficult?
Hi all,
Well, With my 2005 S-Type I've been going through the "ECU/DSC/Parking Brake" limp mode thing. I've tried all the advice on here including sealing everything up with heavy duty electrical tape and dielectric grease. Still going into limp mode with no real rhyme nor reason.
Aside from the singular pain of paying for the part, how difficult is it to swap it out. It looks like 4 bolts, the connectors, and the coolant line.
Speaking of the coolant line, the throttle body seems to get awfully hot. When I first turn the warmed up car off, you can't touch it for more than a second or two.
Anyway, long story short, I'm ready to bite the bullet. I'm a reasonably skilled wrench turner. Is this a job I can do in my yard?
So I beseech the Masters; should I attempt this? If I do, what advice have you?
Scott

JagV8,
The Code it's throwing is P2135. If I reset it then it goes away for a while, once for over a month, but then it came back. 4 times this weekend.
The vehicle has 88269 miles on it.
The battery is about a year old. Maybe a little less. I replaced what appeared the be the stock battery when I started getting weird parking brake faults. Thanks to the advice on this forum I knew that the battery is usually the culprit for electrical gremlins.
The brand is "Duralast" and I just put a multimeter on it. With everything off, the battery has 12.92 volts. With the engine running, it bounces around a little but averages out at around 15.50 volts.
I live in Charleston, South Carolina, so it gets very hot here. We've had a lot of rain this Spring/Summer too.
What do you think?

It's starting to sound like not the battery
But check it after car's been off overnight, before you start the engine. It lets any "surface charge" dissipate.
Grab the free JTIS from here as I expect it shows how to change the TB. If I were doing it I'd get a TB from a wrecker or ebay. But hang on for anyone else to chime in.
Oh - any chance water has got into it (such as its electrical connector) from (say) under the hood?
The TB does have engine coolant routed through it - to cool it when hot and to warm it up to prevent icing - so not an instant swap.

I think you can do it. Just go slow and I hope you have the free JTIS from this site??
It is rare to require a replacement so post back if that fixes your problem.
By far the biggest cause is moisture in the plug to the TB as JagV8 said. So before changing it I would do a few water hose tests on the hood area and take a look at how the water is flowing. You can get drips right onto the TB.
