I will check for leaks again and use the OBDII scanner like you suggested.

Today I did try out the CRC MAF Cleaner to see if it would help.
No change at all.

Thanks again. I willlet you know what I found.

Default Restricted Performance

I found this thread this am after having the exact same check engine light and restricted performance notice on the dash. I have a 2005 STR with 60k miles and noticed it running rough in January when first starting it in the garage but then smoothed out nice after backing out and heading down the road. I talked to my local Minneapolis Jag dealer and he recommended some fuel injector cleaner so I added that in Jan., proceeded to put on about 3k miles with better idling in the morning but it was still there a little. Added another bottle of fuel cleaner and ran another 2k miles til last night when the check engine light and restricted performance warning came on. The car ran rough when sitting in the driveway but then cleared up within about 15 minutes after I took off again to head cross town with check engine light still on but the restricted performance warning gone. I will check several things based on what I just read but was wondering if rough idling occurred with anybody and if that maybe means something different.

In situations like yours, I've seen two different Jaguar dealerships recommend their fuel injector/induction cleaning process. But be sure to get your trouble codes read before you decide to do anything. Without the codes, you're more or less shooting in the dark....

Yes, get the codes and also the freeze frame data. Search past posts here for the codes. Post the data here and hope for help (we're volunteers!).
If any P1xxx codes, make sure you get Jaguar meanings, not other make ones.

Default Restricted Performance

Agree with previous replies. The check engine light went out yesterday and I got a call back from Minneapolis Jag who indicated that they have been having this issue with several cars. He said that their mechanics felt that it was from the "winter blend" of premium gas here in the midwest because the same type of symptoms were occurring.
1. Car would run fine on the highway or where a steady speed was occurring
2. When car would come to a stop at a light or parking, the car would start to run rough and check engine light would come on with restricted performance label.

Mechanics said that the fuel injectors would be fully open when running and there would be no issues but when you came to an idle, then the fuel injectors would start to shut down and croak on the bad "winter" alcohol based gas.

The mechanic also said what a couple other replies in this forum had indicated which was to not use the K&N due to the oil screwing up the MAF sensors. He said that the paper based regular air filter was best. Also, indicated to regularily change the fuel filter since that would trap a lot of the bad crap in gas now days.

Default Same problem!! Help!!

My car has the check engine light on, and sometimes the restricted performance light will come on during acceleration. Only noticeable problems are a rough idle, and clicking noise when the hood is up. Anything past idle, engine seems to run smooth, no noticeable problems on the highway
Codes pulled:
P0308
P1314
P1316
P1111

I'm supposed to go on a business trip tomorrow, not sure if I can even take my car on it, I'm worried about damaging the engine.

Someone please advise!! I would take it into the Jag dealership if I had time, but the schedule is very tight right now!

I'll do some digging but need the car details so please update your profile with at least the year, engine size and whether auto or manual gear box.

In case it's around 2002 please post last 6 of the VIN.

Do you have an OBD tool (e.g. ELM327 $30 ebay) and workshop manual ($10 ebay)?

Angry Check Engine Light

My 2003 S-type went into limp mode on the highway, had it checked and found a wrong air filter stuffed into the case, changed it and made it home with no issues, over 400 miles same day. Today the check engine light is on! Help?

See my previous post - buy an elm327 and read your own codes + data about the engine. Or if you don't want to DIY take it to a competent tech at a dealer.

as jagv8 stated, with just a CEL, only way to have any direction is thru the Pcode(s) stored in the computer. If you don't have a scanner, take to autozone, pep boys, o'reilys, somewhere to see if they can scan it for you. Not all scanners work on the jag, so if it doens't work the first time out, try another store. luck!

Unhappy Check Engine Light

I took the car to the dealer and it is being checked out. I don't trust others now as my trusted mechanic put the wrong air filter in and caused the car to go into "limp" mode in the middle of the Arizona Desert. So far they are covering my costs. The car was undriveable. I suppose there are more expenses coming.

Default code p0171

I have a 2003 STR and also throws code p0171 and p0138. Changed the no.2 O2 sensor in bank one and replaced the throttle body gasket. Problem solved. Hope this helps someone.

Cool Re: Check Engine Light

I have a 2003 Jag S-type 3.0 and the check engine light comes on after getting fuel. Each time it has happened it was Shell gas. I changed to 76 and premium gas and the light went off? The error code was P120 and the Midus guy said my second Catalytic Converter was blown after replacing Cat 2 last month after the wrong air filter caused excessive amounts of sand, dirt, etc. to go into the engine on a long trip to Arizona and back. Firestone ended paying for all of that, but now some troubles with Cat 1. Any ideas?

See the many threads about these kinds of codes and also on fuel trims.

BTW 7-yr old thread so don't expect too much from the posters.
