I have a problem and I’m hoping someone out there can help me, has anyone successfully retrofitted seats from 6 way model to a 12 way?
My car (2002.5) is one of the first of the second generation and the replacement seats are from a 2004 model. I am having a major problem with the install, although surprisingly the passenger side works perfect and every feature is enabled.
Specifically my problem is no driver’s side movement it is completely dead, I know there is power to the seat, as the seat-belt operation and heating features are working as expected. Just no movement not even a click?
I have spent hours investigating but have to admit, vehicle electronics is not my forté, fortunately the seats came with a short length of the donor body harness complete with plugs, which led me to notice there is one difference between my harness plug and the one supplied with the seats, the variation concerns the 20 way connector designated DM23.
The modification consists of an extra cable, there are 12 wires in my original and 13 in the updated, the extra wire is located at position 12 in the plug and has Brown/Red markings.
I not sure but think it may be a live wire that ends up in the button selection module.
My question is, am I right in my conclusion about the missing wire and if so where should I tap a wire to rectify this?
My thanks in advance.

hi
passenger seat is easy as its hard wired, so will work every time
the drivers seat is controlled from the seat module, which is canbus operated so will need programing and then calibrating before it will work properly
and as yours is a 2000 might not even work, as I'm sure only 2002 to 2008 are compatible
your need a non memory seat switch pack that does not uses a module, so it would be hard wired like the passenger seat
cheers
Joe
Hi Joe, Many thanks for taking the time to read my post and for the quick reply, I’m sorry for misleading you, I should have put the car as 2002.5 (the first of the second generation) not 2000.5 I have now corrected the typo.
I believe as the seat module came fitted, it should already be programmed for that particular seat.
I have a working copy of SDD and have been using IDS for a few years, I have programming the vehicle before, including successfully retrofitted autofold door mirrors.
I have also reprogrammed the passenger seat for the change in cushion weight and that works?
The seat module does not appear in any of the IDS programming options, although the door and the restraints module do feature, I have refreshed all the possible combinations, which ultimately led me to identify the missing wire.
If you or anyone else can think of something I’ve missed towards providing a solution, I would be extremely grateful.
Tried to follow your advice but as screenshot shows no Seat Module fitted either as new or existing module,
To be sure I brought an upgraded version of SDS from 130 to 131 to see if my version was missing something, three hours of configuring later, same result, still couldn’t find the seat module listed, I went through every option without any luck.
In the end even tried the option ‘Calibrate steering column’, thought it may wake the modules, big mistake as I found out when it states “The next screen will require you to enter digits 3-10 of the 11 digit alphanumeric value, which is printed on the barcode label located in two places. 1. Located in the boot/trunk on the right hand side, you need to remove the base board that exposes the spare wheel and then pull the right hand trim away from the body to view the label. 2. Located on the steering column this is only accessible by dropping the column.”
But by then it’s too late, your committed, there is no back or cancel button, no option but to proceed, great!
I frantically searched the boot for a barcode label, removed everything from the boot, no label, (apparently they didn’t put in a label until the next year’s model!) So now I’m starting to panic, battery running low on the laptop, I know a lot people advise against letting the application terminate prematurely, thought I’d better try something just to finish the program, tried all zero’s which didn’t work, tried all 9’s this worked, the column moved to its bottom position and allowed me to finish the operation, I thought that’s OK, now I can unbolt the column and the get the correct alphanumeric value and try again. I did this the next day and entered the correct value, but it no longer works, it goes through the motions and reports ‘Calibration Successful’ but the column refuses to budge, apparently I’ve locked the Front Module. What do they say, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Reading through the forums some say it can be reprogrammed others say it can’t, but you can replace it with a second hand one if it’s got exactly the same part number.
Now I’m unsure on how to proceed, any advice I would be grateful for.
After all this I thought I might as well try what I first thought was wrong with the missing wire, so I made a 2amp fused test lead, connected direct from the battery to the body harness plug underneath the seat, hey-presto it works. The wire must be the live to the seat switches. Wire missing bottom right. with wire fitted.
Please does anybody know where this wire is supposed to be powered from?
hi
Dont know why your software not showing it,
but when I go into IDS, I can configure new and existing seat modules,
I'd be checking the wiring to the module for breaks as it may be not communicating with canbus
cheers
Joe
I’ve just noticed something, the missing wire is already installed in the original plug, it’s in position 4 on my plug and in position 11 in the plug supplied with the seats, all I have to do is swap the wires, DOH!
Missing wire 4th one down.
Wire located in position 11 in later plug.
Don’t know how I missed It can’t be my eyes, I has my cataracts done over ten years ago!
I think I’ll close this thread and start a new one with the FEM programming problem, I don't think its related to the seat problem.
If anyone is still interested the seats are now working, moving the wires in the body harness plug was the solution for the driver’s side.
There was a problem with the passenger seat, it was showing as a dashboard fault, the seatbelt symbol flashed once then a delay followed by a further five times, (meaning code 15), after a bit of searching found this explanation of the Flash-code: 15 = C1414, RCM Version Conflicts with OCS Restraint Control Module or OCS Service Kit.
According to JLR the solution recommended is:-
Note: If a fault is identified with the Occupancy Classification System
(OCS) module, passenger seat weight sensor or passenger seat weight sensor harness, all of these components must be replaced as a complete kit.
It appears the seat sensors are programmed to the OCS in the car, after a little research decided it was easier to fix by replacing the parts needed from the old passenger seat.
After moving the seat back and forth to gain access to the bolts I disconnected the battery, detached the plugs underside, got the seat out of the car and swapped the weight sensor (also known as a bladder), then the other seat modules, including the pre-tensioner and heated seat module (although I don’t think they are necessary, I was not taking any chances), this worked and after refitting the seat in the car, no more errors and nothing else needed, not even faults to clear.
Modules and seat belt pretensioner.
The seats are well made, so replacing the seat weight sensor is not too difficult if you’re careful, when put back together you wouldn’t know anything had been changed, the only thing I needed to alter was the bladder to harness connection plug, this was replaced from the original seat. The modules are exactly the same so changing is easy.
Seat switch housing, 2off TX20 screws to remove from underneath, notice the spring-fixing clips are set at 45° angle, that’s the best direction to remove them.
Seat weight sensor (bladder) from underside.
To anyone thinking of upgrading seats from a 2002.5 (6 way) to a 2004 (12 way) I’d say it’s not that challenging once you know what to look for, take your time and work methodically, you will need normal tools plus a Star Bit TX50 for the seat belt fixing and TX20 for the switch cover housing, a Torx E12 Female socket for the front seat rail and a normal 15mm socket for the back, not forgetting thread-lock for all critical fixings. Also as with all auto electrical connectors, if you have hands the size of a Japanese woman combined with the strength of a Gorilla it would help.
