Default Retrofitting ZF Trans?

Hello, is Anyone able to share what would go into retrofitting the ZF Trans in the Later models to an Earlier model. Example, a 03+ Trans to like a 2000 S type.
I currently own a 03’ STR and I want another S type as a “Daily”. Yes a Daily for my Daily. I used to have a 00’ V6 and the trans was swapped. Hadn’t had an issue for the 10 years I drove it after the swap but it makes me think, with the lack of knowledge my parents had on the difference in transmissions, maybe a ZF was purchased and that’s why I didn’t have any issues for the 10 years. 0 fluid changes, driving like a young man should and never and trans issues. Then I see some amazing conditioned 2000 models or early models with only 40k miles but has transmission issues.

It has to be a way to retro fit this trans because the 3.0 In a 2000 vs a 03’ is exactly the same is it not? Maybe a the first gen ZF Transmissions that came out may be a easier swap..

Reason being, yes I understand some of you may say “well just get the faceoff model”.. or “Get a 03+ model”.
If you haven’t noticed, the interior is different. I have the updated interior in my STR but I miss the interior in my 2000 and I want the nostalgia being that I lost that car in an accident. Also the side mirrors are rectangular on the before 03’ models and I prefer them. All inputs are wanted. Thank you all

No chance.

The ZF & PCM (aka ECM) talk over CAN.

Your car has no CAN. The PCM has no CAN. Your ABS has no CAN. And so on.

Listen to JagV8!

No your 2000 S-Type did not have any kind of transmission swap. It had the factory Ford 5 speed AT.
Nothing wrong with that transmission and it was used in millions of common Fords so any and all kinds of mods are available. Way more than what's out there for the ZF transmission.

If you have transmission problems it is a common transmission to get rebuilt.
Also forget not doing fluid changes. That is the number one reason for transmission failure/problems. Lack of maintenance. Yes in the beginning we heard that Jaguar and Ford claimed filled for life fluids but we know now that is simply not true.
ZF recommends a fluid swap somewhere in the 60K-80K miles range.

+1 on the above information. The X200 was fitted with the Ford 5R55N (5 forward gears, Rear drive, Model 55, Non-sequential) gearbox. The reason Jaguar went to the 6HP26 for the X202 and later models was to have a sixth gear.

The main issue with the 5R55N was the two servos having bore wear due to the steel pistons running in an aluminium case. Bore wear causes the two bands to slip thus damaging other components. The fix is to machine the case and insert steel sleeves into the bores to eliminate any hydraulic leakage.
