S series new battery won't turn over just beeps RESOLVED
05 S series 4.2 - battery was dying - replaced it with a new battery and after turning off park brake and resetting windows - car won't turn over just beeps at me - can't figure out how to get it to start
Battery is fully charged and no change - headlights turn on - lights are bright etc. - when I turn the key it makes a mechanical noise under the hood but doesn't turn over and then it beeps at me for and extended period of time
You need to do more troubleshooting.
Find out what is clicking. Maybe you need a new starter?
Do the head lights dim when you attempt to start the car?
What is the PATS light doing on the dash?

No idea on the later S Types.
When i have the battery off on either of our S Types, I have the remoteat hand, and when reconnected, I press the LOCK button, then the UNLOCK button, and all is fine.
Not doing that has the alarm SET as default when the battery is reconnected. I have NO understanding as to WHY, it just works.

Tried lock and unlock - no change
When I turn on the lights and try to start the car the big headlights turn off and the smaller uppers stay on - the electrical clicking is I think the emergency brake releasing no movement or noise from the engine area at all - no written messages on the dash - the battery oil and engine symbols are lit on the dash when the key is on - not sure if that means anything or not

PATs passed the prove out based on led staying on for 3 sec in run position
All internal lighting on and electrical inside functioning properly
Battery and terminal connectivity seems good - checked fuses under hood - esp #18 fuse #6 footwell and #2 relay - all check out good
New battery - good charge
Still No Crank

After 7 hours of painful process of elimination - found an after market kill switch tucked in the side of the frame as we we're about to take the starter out to bench test it - googled it up and within 5 min they punched in a code and the car is running like new - dealer forgot to remove it and I guess the low battery set it off
Shady car dealers over here John simply put.
They wire in immobilizers, so if a new owner misses a payment or 2, the dealer can basically flip a switch and shut off the vehicle.

To elaborate, and hi jack.
A long time ago my niece thought she was going to be "grown up". She went to a shady dealer with no credit (at the time she was 18). They sold her a pretty banged up KIA, I should state, beat to the ground. If the price of it wasn't bad enough, IIRC she was paying 22% interest on the loan. It had an immobilizer on it.
One day she called and asked for help when it wouldn't crank, totally dead as if the battery was removed. I ran through some quick checks, lo and behold there was this 3 wire black box wired to the main. I immediately removed it. The car fired right up.
My niece failed to tell me she missed a payment, boom. Also the dealer told her that it was illegal to touch/remove said immobilizer (I knew different). After removing the box I smashed it and sent it back to the dealer. End of story

that's exactly what the dealer told me - they put it in for those who are late on payments - I had paid for the car in full - they are sending me over the codes and transferring it into my name - it has gps tracking etc. - I guess I get a discount on insurance for having it and can track my kids if needed - lol - so I guess I will keep it in?
Otherwise they will send someone out to remove it - I don't really want anyone form the dealer messing with the car honestly - thanks again for all the help - Loyd
