S-Type 2002.5 V8 4.2, Fan-Cooling Issue(s)
Hi there,
Reader for a while learned tons here.
I inherited my father's S-type as he bought a new car. The car has been sitting 1-2 years.
There are a few issues with it. The main one is probably with the cooling system. AC doesnt seem to be working. Not sure if its missing coolant or there is something else. When turned on you can hear a hissing sound from the middle front vents. Turning it off the hissing stops.
The blower cant really do cold air either, if the engine is warm its hot air only LO-HI doesnt matter. There is leaking coolant too, i ve seen it drip from around the oil filter area. I have trouble getting the fan turn on as well. Fuse looked ok.
But the worst probably is the engine, especially after some uphill, can smoke. Now i was told that some sort of oil leaks and that burns out when engine gets hot. But engine oil is stable as so i guess its coolant but it does have a bad smell. Smoke comes from down back, exhaust manifold maybe.
Could it be that all is in order and just the fan not turning on makes the cooling that much worse?
Maybe someone see a pattern here.
