You can try a hard reset. Disconnect the negative cable and hold it against the positive for 10 seconds. Most likely the problem may be in the fan control module and it will need to be replaced. Reach out to Dr Dome. He a forum member that parts out x-types and can get you what you need. Call or text 484-903-4813.
You might also first check to make sure the coolant temperature sensor hasn't been left disconnected during the prior work that was performed.

Do the fans run after you turn off the key for awhile, but then eventually go off on their own after a few minutes? Or when you say the won't turn off you mean they will run continuosly until the battery would run down? Reason I ask is it could be you have an overheating problem. Did you check the coolant level or check for any coolant leaks?

May be a sticking or stuck thermostat.

Me or him, lol. Not me, just replaced the upper hose assembly with accompanying thermostat & performs the same as it always has. Although on start up after replacing, the fans were acting very odd.....oh yeah, I forgot to plug the IAT/MAF back in, it coughed and ran smooth with fans at full blast (a/c on).

If the thermostat is not functioning correctly, the ECM causes the fans to run after the engine is shut off.

Just because a thermostat is new doesn't mean it's functioning correctly. This is especially true of aftermarket thermostats.

Good chance engine getting to hot. Though i'm unsure if the 3.0 cooling system is a close system. But if u changed your thermostat and fans running after the car is off. u have a overheating issue. Most likely one of your intake manifold gaskets is blown. Which engine do u have?

@NB, so you're saying the fans NOT running after shut off is good and normal? That's good to know as I have read MANY posts about fans running after shut off which on a couple of my cars (foreign-asian) was normal to cool the engine off.

Mine did same thing once. Coolant level in reservoir was low. Once I added coolant to proper level, problem went away. Had slow leak - eventually had tp replace reservoir..

G'day Gino,

I had a similar problem with my X Type in that the cooling fans ran on and on after shutdown. I also noticed that the coolant temperature was indicating a little higher than it normally did so I replaced the thermostat and that fixed the problem.

Cheers,
Jeff.
