Default Cooling Fan/Radiator Fan running after engine shut off

2015 Jaguar XF 3.0 SC

I recently started noticing the radiator fan remains on for a good minute or so after shutting off the engine regardless if how long the drive is. Its summer time in Canada, temps reach up to 28 to 30 C.

I noticed the fan was running even though the engine ran for less than a minute (moving it away from the garage door)

I should mention the car has had several coolant related issue that were addressed at the dealership with genuine parts. There is no temp gauge for me to monitor in order to determine if the car is overheating. The engine does feel very hot after a long drive, but that has always been the case.

I've read several forum post discussing the matter for other models though could not determine a clear conclusion as some post leaned towards it being NOT normal and most likely related to a bad sensor, water pump etc while other posts suggested that's normal and is designed to cool off the engine after use.

Is it normal for the cooling fan to run a minute or two after the engine has shut down?

I called the dealership, no straight response, they're pushing to bring the car in for a checkup and drop a hefty diagnostic charge.

cant really find any information regarding this elsewhere, any thoughts?

You could use OBD to check what the car thinks the temp is.

At this point I'm trying out if it's normal or bot, the fan runs for at least a full minute after engine shuts off.

I have an OBD scan tool, though I have bot seen engine temp menu, but I'll double check that. What numbers should I be looking for, in other words, what's the ideal temp after 5 to 10 minutes of engine running. I understand there are a multitude of factors involved that may affect that, just looking for what it should be ideally in ambient temps of 25 C

you might have a short in the signal wire going to the fan. If that wire is cut the the fan doesn’t see a signal from the ecm so it keeps the fan On a certain speed so it doesn’t overheat the engine. But if you notice that the fan speeds do change then it is getting a signal and it shouldn’t be a short than

My 2013 3.0 S/C also does this. It usually runs less then 1 minute and mostly less then 30 seconds after shutdown. Not sure if it’s normal, I notice the fan speed changing depending on the weather, when it’s hot it runs at a faster speed, cool weather it runs slowly.

Can't say I've noticed it on the XF, but my 4.2L XK8 fans would run several minutes after shutoff on really hot days. Especially true in heavy traffic with hot weather. It easily hits 100F/38C+ outside in the Texas summer, so it did that often. Owners manual said it was normal.

Having the same issues with my XKR for me it only happens when the driver door opens or closes. And it'll turn on even on cold start.
