Default S-type 2005 key remote programming

Hello I'm new to this but I've encountered my first problem that seems to have no straight answer for the s-type, I've done the one thing I dread on any car, I've decided to change the battery on my key fob remote, of course with the jaguar, as you would expect, it was screwed together properly which of course make a simple task that little more difficult! Anyway the worst happened and once back together it didn't unlock the door and required reprogramming! (It starts the car but doesn't unlock and lock the doors)
After extensive searching and many attempts of self programming with flicking between 1 & 2 on the ignition, no valet button, door open, boot open, flashing high beam etc but nothing will work or give any "chimes"! I've lost the will to live now!
Is there anyone out there that has any answer to this or is the trip to a dealers absolutely essential? I have seen this suggested but I refuse to believe that changing the battery in a remote had any conceivable chance of having to go to a dealers to get it working again????
Any help will be greatly appreciated thank you!

Welcome to the forum,

It shouldn't need programming again after a battery change, I'd go back and check the fob assembly carefully and make sure everything is clean.
The self programming procedures won't work on the S Type.

After that maybe you can post an intro in the new members area?

The battery change shouldn't necessitate a reprogram. Make absolutely certain you installed it/them correctly. Having said that, the FOBs do, on occasion go on the fritz and cease working. Some have had success (myself included) in placing that FOB to the shelf for a week or two whilst you use the other one. Then, after what only each individual FOB can determine, is an appropriate rest period, it begins working again.
Otherwise, yes, you must present your car and both keys (all if you have >2) to a dealer or other technician equipped with WDS/IDS to have the incantations chanted and the ritual performed.

I bought a cheap Chinese key fob from Amazon for $50. The key stalk programming method worked first try. Then I just separated the two halves of the key fob and put the key barrel on the new fob so I wouldn't need to have one cut and it works fine.

Sounds like the buttons are bad. They can be replaced pretty cheaply and they are on EBay.

Do you think you could do the repair? If not I would get new FOBS. They do get a lot of daily use.

Try another battery first, Ive bought a few duff uns off ebay.
There are UK companies on ebay who will fix your current key fobs with 48 turnaround as long as they are programmed to your car.

One example of several on ebay. Good ratings too.
