Question S-type 4.0 200/5 Automatic trans. problem

Hello,

I bought my car 1 day ago. I talked lot of the owner about the transmission.

I had before this a Chrysler, Chrysler`s automatic transmissions could work with 1 finger from P to N or R to D or triptonic mode. The Jag owner said to me, that is different, do you need to strongly push from P to D or R, he said this is a men car. I don`t think, that is correct. In 2-3-4 I can shift the stick with a finger. Could you help me, do you have with this problem, or that is normal? I don`t think that..

I have another problem. If I would like to start my car: P + break start engine AFTER THIS breake shift to D and AFTER THIS up break.. and auto doesn`t start.. sometimes yes.. but lot of times I have this problem. If that case.. I need to put the stick to 4 and back to D and the car start. I called after this the old owner and he said that is normal (??) in Jaguars with 4.0 motors, really? Could you help me? I think it is transmission problem.

Please help me, this is my first s-type.
If you have similar problem, then please send for me your email to talk about asap.

thanks in advance!!

Welcome!

It's not normal, but it sounds like one of the fairly common faults. Most likely the transmission is fine. It's likely the shifter mechanism that's faulty. Search for Stuck in Park threads. You have the same transmission (Ford 5R55N) as the 3.0 engine of similar years. They get the same problem and it's the same fix.
