Default S-Type outer tie rod install problem

I'm replacing the outer tie rod and everything is going really well. I screw the new tie rod end to the steering rack but when I go to attach the other end to the wheel assembly the angle of the tie rod bolt is too severe to insert into it's proper mounting spot. The old tie rod end just fell out because it was loose but the new one is nice and tight. Does part of the wheel have to come off here? Thanks in advance.

I would try and jack up the lower control arm to get the outer tie rod into place. Also, I believe all final tightening must be accomplished with the wheels on the ground - but double check with JTIS.

I'm all finished with the job as I figured it out myself. I should have known something this basic and I have to tell you, I'm a bit embarrassed. Thank you abonano, that's great advice too. By the way, the car drives brilliantly now with no vibration any more. That old tie rod end was in very bad shape and I hate to think what would have happened if it had broken off at speed.
