Default S-type R Balljoint

So I'm in the process of replacing all the front control arms on my STR. I had a knocking coming from the strut bushing and figured with 170k it might be time to update all the bushings. Initially, since the ball joints weren't making any noise and were still relatively stiff I decided to not replace those. Well in the process of removing the driver side lower arm, the tapered sleeve that holds the joint decided to vacate the arm. I've tried a few applications of heat, penetrating lubricant and small 2 jaw pullers and haven't been able to coax it to leave it's old pal, the ball joint. I figured it might just be easier to replace the joints now.

The problem lies in that I cannot find the STR specific joint. From what I can gather it looks like you originally were supposed to replace the whole knuckle. Which sucks, monetarily, but it looks like even that is NLA nowadays. My local Jag dealer seems to scoff at the fact I still buy parts "for an old s-type".

Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the STR specific joint?

If you’re asking for a replacement ball joint for the front I believe they aren’t available anymore. I’m not sure about what sleeve you were talking about. can you post a picture of it?

edit- I was thinking of the top ball joint that isnt available by itself. For the upper control arm, you need to buy the whole upper control arm with ball joint already installed

but you need the lower

That stepped sleeve is normally pressed into the control arm. I imagine that Jaguar pressfit that sleeve into the arm in an attempt to not have the aluminum-to-steel corrosion issues that a balljoint taper might have.

The balljoint itself looks suspiciously like later xf and xkr versions but I can't find a local supplier. Only found on ebay and other random websites...

Appreciate the help. Up until now, none of the ones listed for s-type have appeared to be the correct version. By application the standard brick and mortar parts stores show a different ball joint. I was hoping to find something locally since the car is taking up my rack but I guess I'll just have to wait. Thank you.

Edit; I didn't see that picture before. Fcp and eurospare both list ones, but that's about it and neither "part number" they lost cross reference into anything substantial. I have a feeling they're not correct as the length and diameter of the threaded stud looks too short and too small. I ordered from sng so we'll see what theirs looks like.

Not sure where you are at but I’m in Little Rock and I know for a fact that there is pretty much nothing available for my car locally.

berkshire sells the lemforder ball joint and obviously doesn’t disclose their source or the part number. it has to be shipped over from the UK.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-JAGUAR-...2819125?_ul=IN

URO sells a ball joint you can buy in bulk off aliexpress.https://www.ebay.com/itm/152606099485

there are three types of vertical links for the second gen s-type/x350, for girling, brembo and teves brakes. the ball joint is the same and probably remained the same until the end the XJ production in 2019.

I did. I eventually slit the sleeve with a combination of cutoff wheel and rotozip with a carbide burr. Just took some patience so I didn't knick the taper or introduce too much heat into the ball joint. Ball joints are ordered but SNG said they're coming from the UK so they added another week to delivery. I need the car off the rack so I'll put it back together for now and replace them when I get them.

I'm up in the Seattle area. I guess I was just disillusioned. I picked up all three control arms, swaybar end links, strut mounts, and brake pads/rotors locally within a few hours wait for a semi reasonable price.

I have a 2005 S-type. Got them from part's geek and they did fine.
There are 2 types. Clearly the one with the ridge at the bottom is not correct.

Uro parts does them, Check with the EPC to just part numbers, but bet they are the same
