fabfive, take phdvolts 03 48k mile near perfect STR for $12k, and save yer self a ton of money, then mod her. I traded a 2002 X-Type 3.0 (topaz) towards the 03 STR. The "X" was by far the worst car I've ever owned. It wasn't till 2005 that Jag finally screwed them together properly. I actually walked quickly away from her the day I traded her ($3000) towards the STR ($11,900).

 

Id keep looking, like an earlier poster said STRs arent exactly selling like hotcakes. I purchased my 2005 with 82k for 12500. And it is in pretty fantastic shape. The deals are out there keep looking. Someday these beauties will be worth a fortune especially the STRs

 

I'm already working on my next one. The idea being, I can drive one into the ground or until the wheels fall off (whichever comes first), modding it and doing all sorts of stuff to it, while the other will remain for the most part vintage.

Unquestionably, it's a very very visually appealing vehicle and the ponies beneath the hood are surely competitive to the best in it's class of their eras. I'm looking to make one of the two I'll eventually have boast about 550 RWHP / 0.85 = 647 BHP (approximately) using a 15% powertrain loss. In short, I love my STR!!!
