S Type R Rear Brake Job: Help Please!
#41
I found that the collet wrench for my 4.5" angle grinder fit the caliper piston holes perfectly on the X-Type's rear brakes. How lucky is that? I've also modified standard $10 brake cubes to fit various calipers in the past with a dremel tool.
IIRC, on the X one piston rotated clockwise, one anti-clockwise for retraction. I haven't seen any mention of that being the case for the S Type, so I'm guessing both are clockwise rotations.

The sets I saw ran from 35 to about 150
Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more
As I have NO tools, I purchased the following for this Job.
Hydraulic 2 1/4 ton Hydraulic Jack
Gloves
2 1/4 ton Jack Stands
18mm Socket
Socket Wrench
Hammer
Needle Nosed Pliers
Overalls
I figured I'd get the additional tool to be authentic. I'm not really a car buff by way of performing Mods, but with Vance's Video and the endless suggestions and commentary I've gotten from everyone here, I figure I'm in good shape to make it all happen and share the experience.
(Rick), I own a really nice set of Golf Clubs too. When I first purchased them, I sucked! Right now though, I'm vastly improved. I guess when I hang up the network designing and implementing, I'll take up photography, golf and self modding my cars. Just another interesting thing to do.

Didn't even get to start the job. The bigger challenge for me of course was to be able to take things apart properly and re-assemble them. I started the morning by disassembling everything. Vance580's video was instrumental for the front and the workings of things, the rears when applying the proper procedure to disengage the parking brake was also easy.
Well after the car was up in the air and the parts were removed, I opened the boxes and realized they'd shipped me rotors and pads for an S-Type, not the S-Type R. I put things back together and all is functioning properly.
DriveWire is refunding me an additional 100.00 for their blunder and return shipping for free on the bad parts. Crappy way to spend my weekend, but it should be a breeze now when I receive the proper items.

Ooopps..Sorry for the bogus info...I searched for replacements and these looked like the right pads, I never bought the pads since the originals were still fine.

I'm planning on doing a full rotor swap on my STR since my rear rotors need to be replaced, dealer said it was gonna be $700-$800 just for the rear two but I'd rather do it my self. I wanted to go with some cross drilled slotted brake discs any one have any recomendations that won't put to big a hole in my pocket or should I just stick with the OE blanks? Any recomendations on pads that offer the same quietness but with less brake dust than the OE?
