Default S Type Rear clonk

Hi I have a 2007 2.7 diesel auto, when slowing down to make a turn, just before I come to a stand still, I get a clonk from the rear of my car. I think it is the left hand side, but it is difficult to tell, anyone have any idear's.

Likely stabilizer-bar end-links,

Otherwise, lower strut mount bushings, and some of the lower control arm bushings are known to wear.

Are you sure it's not a bit of the "lurch"?

I get it coming to a stop once in a while and it really can clonk the rear end!

I was going to suggest rear ARB (sway bar) bush as it can cause a clonk noise but I don't think you'd feel it like that.

Park. Bounce car rear hard each side. Jack up, shake wheels, spin wheels, remove, hunt for any damaged bushes etc. Pry on metal arms. Any mechanic can do it...

Default clonk

I put the car over my pit, I then got my wife to hold the brake, put it into gear forward and then reverse ,and I can then feel the clonk on these bushes. I need to know how dificult it is to change them.

Call a dealer. Or maybe an online place will show them.

Well I still don't think that is your problem.

When you have replaced the bushings please report back with what you found.

You will feel that clonk anywhere you put your hands because it's all tied together.

Default clonk

I am going to have a better look tomorrow. I think you might be right but it really did feel like those bushes. I will keep you posted.

I am only arguing because we just have not had anybody I can find that needed to replace these.

So either they don't wear out/fail very often or we just don't notice it.

Jaguar actually has some metal spacers that can be inserted in the slots of the bushing. This was for a clunk noise problem. I ordered a set and put them in but still have a small clunk when taking off. It's been there since I got the car at 32K miles and I am now at 103K miles.

However I noticed your car does not have these slots in the rubber bushings so that must be one of the running changes Jaguar did on the newer S Types. Maybe this was an attempt to reduce bushing movement?

Interested to see what you find.

Brutal have you got any input on this?

Default Had another look

I got back under the car today, It is most certainly these 2 bushes, With afoot on the brake and going into forward and then reverse, These 2 bushes moveup and down about a 1/4" of an inch without the rubber moving, and thediff is turning back and forwards, the car has a tow bar, so if the previousowner did a lot of towing, like a caravan, I wonder if this is the cause?. I amfitting a new ramp in my garage at the moment, as soon as it is done, this will be my firstjob.

Default a bit of advise wanted o this clonk

Had another look at these bushes today, I can see that they don’t look wornBut I can see them moving up and down when going from drive to reverse with thefoot brake on, and can feel the clonk when touching them, but I am thinkingthat it could be travelling from some where else, to replace these bushes itlooks like the sub frame has to be removed, so I am thinking about replacingany other bushes on the rear end that are a common problem before I tackle thesub frame removal, the car has done about 75000 miles and a tow bar fitted bythe previous owner. I might even go and see a Jaguar specialist to get somehelp. Anyone have any suggestions.

Statement of the obvious: all suspension bushes & joints are wear items and need replacing at some point. Do the ones that are loose/cheap/etc to your own taste (or MoT).
