Default S type Suspension information (2003 and newer)

Hi guys. If you've been watching the forum, I'm starting to get an idea of how and where to track down parts to replace my suspension. During this process I found that several parts don't interchange between the s type and the s type r's. So I thought that it'd be good to put together a thread that we could have to reference and use the info gained from the guys in the know and the guys who have had to replace stuff and do the research the tough way.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about the suspension and my knowledge is based on what I'm finding as I search through here.

Also, and very importantly, I referenced a youtube video "how to chek jaguar s type for clunks" which helps diagnose what's wrong with the bushings in the suspension. This is a decent starting point if you're getting the annoying clunks when going over speed bumps and sounds when you sit down in the car.

Here's some of the suspension/front end parts that you may end up replacing and whether they're for all s types, or split between the v6, 4.2 and the s type r. If experts could chime in if I'm wrong or with additional info....

knuckles- s type r is different from base model

tie rod ends- I believe they are the same

struts/ lower strut bushings- bushings available, but I haven't successfully tracked them down yet. Most guys go non-cats when replacing the struts ($1100 a set of 4 for oem type) so there are several options available. Most guys go bilstiens(spelling).

strut mounting pads- I think they're the same

stabilizer links- ?

sway bar bushings- ?

Anyhow, I'll edit the thread as info comes in! I need to redo my suspension so hopefully I learn alot!

In addition to there being a difference b/w 98-02 and 03-on, (Ball joint faces opposite direction) there is also a difference b/w STR and non-supercharged S types MY 03-on

MY 03-on
The STR knuckles are thicker and have threaded caliper mounting holes. The Non-S/C do not have threaded holes.

Oho. Thanks.

Looks like the awkward (*) to obtain parts for the 2003+ cars still don't exist, as the Definitive Wishbone thread (UK forum) says

(*) er, impossible

man, so there aren't any sources for any of the bushings in our suspension? Even if the wishbones/control arms aren't available, I'd still like to replace the sway bar links and bushings. I will also be replacing the lower strut bushings at the same time.

Well... some are available - see the UK forum - aren't they? Just not all

Except.... they kinda must be. But from where?
