S-Type TPS?
Anybody have any luck finding a Throttle Position Sensor?
I think they were 198500 3300 but don't seem to be available from Jaguar.
Wait'n for bad news...

>I'd be very very unlikely to be wanting one! (Why do you?)
Because this has happened three times since April, and two times in the last month:

Good advice, but one word of caution. Make sure the throttle body includes the sensor. If buying online, ask for pictures.
I went down this route a couple of years ago, and bought a complete used throttle body on eBay. At the time, many of the listings did NOT include the TPS, as those were being sold separately. Curiously, I picked up a complete assembly with TPS for less than most vendors wanted for just the sensor.

>just buy a used TB
Thanks, I'm going to have the guy who has worked on it take a look and see what he finds.
He's also going to get a price on a new TB. This car is pretty important to me so if I decide to go with replacing the TB I'm gonna go OEM.

Possibly, but I see them listed by SNG Barratt at ~$500 US $ and
£307.04(£368.45) inc VAT

>That's my idea of a fortune, especially when compared with used.
Ya, don't disagree, but one concern I have is finding the right one used. Looking at the ones listed there seem to be at least three versions depending on VIN-range. I've got an extremely late S-Type with a high VIN so I might image that finding the correct one, used, could be tough.
I'm having it looked at tomorrow so I'll see what they say/find/"adjust" (i.e., my first act will not be to spend $500 on a new one... ;-).

If a slightly older one fits it's likely to work. It's the same engine so the change may just have been something trivial or to save $$$.
I'd say you want one from the same engine kind (looks like 4.2).

I had to change just the TPS out a year ago and no pesky P2135 trouble codes or limp modes since. Bought off eBay for less than $25 similar to this one: TPS Throttle Position Sensor for Jaguar X-Type 02-04 & S-Type 03-05 198500-3300 | eBay
It's not the same MY listed as yours but the P/N matches. Btw, quite a few current eBay listings for this P/N but I went with a vendor that was located 50 miles from me to speed delivery time. I had more trouble finding the special tool required that I also got thru eBay (Torx T20 security bit). Good luck.

Looked, saw, understand. Unplugged the connector and inspected it closely. There was no sign of moisture, no green film evident, etc. Plugged/unplugged a couple of times, will have to see if that makes any difference. But next time it happens...
Found that the throttle body is the same with the 4.2 XKs (same part number listed by SNG Barratt) so that broadens the search for a replacement.
Oh, side bar, I noticed that SNG Barratt does not appear to list parts for any Jaguar newer than the XK. Nothing listed for XF, XJ, F-Type and the website doesn't even mention the XE. Wonder if Jaguar is not providing parts to non-dealers?

Torque is how far you take the wall with you

Just wanted to add that when I inspected my suspect TPS, it showed no signs of moisture or contaminants inside - it looked like new. I tried testing it for resistance dropouts thru rotational sweeps but found I would need an analog multimeter and also ability to change temps to test it correctly. My cheapest solution was to try a new TPS before going the expensive throttle body swap route.
The first attempt didn't work as I tried to install the new TPS in same rotational position as the old one (I was told that the position did not matter to the computer). I guess the new resistance ranges were too much for my computer to compensate. Experimenting with extra rotation, almost to the stops, solved the problem and I've not experienced any more dreaded limp modes or P2135 engine faults since. 12 months and counting.
Good luck!

Sad, the car went into limp mode on the way home from work yesterday.
Guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and either find a used TPS or get an entire throttle body. It's happened 4 times in the last six months.
Looking around on ebay but am not finding a suitable used replacement. Need one for a late model 4.2 but see mostly stuff for V6 or 4.0 V8s
But supposing I find one, what is the replacement procedure? How would I know how to position the rotating gizmo inside?

That appears not to be you. You had exactly the same in every detail?
I suggest verifying the P/N on your existing TPS and forget about the applicable years stated on the parts listing. Just search for that P/N on ebay. Still quite a few current listings for 198500-3300, if that's it.
Re-read my previous posts again for special tool and take a cell phone pic of your TPS mounting position before removal. Contrary to what I was told, re-aligning the new part to my old part's original rotational position would NOT allow my engine to start. After a few choice words, I simply tried rotating the TPS to different positions in the available range (since the holes are slotted) until the engine would light without stumble. After that, I let the car run for 10-15 minutes while the computer started it's idle re-learning process. PM me if you need more expanded details of my trial and error steps to avoid, I'll give you my cell # to discuss. Those limp mode incidents can be real head bangers!
Cheers!

Yup, I located that on another Jaguar forum and was simply bringing it to readers of this forum's attention.
