S-Type Water Boot
Well my Jag had water in the trunk under and next to the battery and I for sure do not like water in the trunk !
So removed all parts to solve the issue 100%
-Bought a new trunk seal, just to be sure. Filled the seal with Sikaflex221 for 100% sealing.
Sikaflex 221 is a great product. Made for the automotive sector and is quite affordable.
Forget about silicone, is for the tub but not intended for the automotive sector.......
-noticed that quite some factory metal sealing had little gaps and cracks, especially around the backlight body work.
Issue was the right side backlight but from the start worked on both sides. Water entered through the old factory body work sealings and found its way into the trunk.
So again used Sikaflex 221 to seal all. I sealed all, re-sealed factory body work sealing up to sealing the battery vent and the tow bar power cable.
-noticed that each backlight is mounted with 2 bolts and one white pin that clicks in. When tightening the 2 bolts I noticed that the white pin that clicks in was pulled out slightly each time WTF !!
Of course that does not work cause then the backlight is simply not pushed well to the body work, water leak guaranteed again......
So removed the white pin that clicks in and replaced it with a 3rd bolt. Now I can tighten up the backlight 100% and the unit is pushed 100% to the backlight seal.
Why Jag did not use 3 bolts per backlight first place ?????
