Default Are S Type and X Type Horns Compatible

Hi, Does anyone know if X Type and S Type horns have the same electrical connectors? One of the horns on my S Type has failed and it seems that X Type horns are cheaper on Ebay UK than S Type ones.

In case no-one knows (why would they?), find each of the horns in any parts catalogue and see if the numbers are the same. I don't see why they would be, but maybe.

Just get one out of any junkyard. It can be off a Peugot or a Rolls Royce. Get the connecter and a couple of inches of wiring with it, and splice it onto your Jag's horn wire. Ten minutes with a soldering iron can save you a lot of money, and a car horn is a car horn.

Any time I've needed to replace a horn, the generic parts store horns have worked fine for me.

Thumbs up

The original reason for asking if X Type and S Type horns were the same was that I wanted to keep things original. I don't want to butcher the wiring for the horns so have paid double the price of X Type horns on Ebay and have bought a set of S Type horns and will be fitting them once they have arrived. Thank you all for your contributions.

DON'T butcher the car to band aid a horn on!!

There are plenty of S Types in the junk yard and on EBay. You should be able to find one in under 10 minutes.

Now you do know there are two horns and they have different frequencies? So find out if the lo or hi horn has gone bad.

Hi T Bird6, Thank you for your reply. Yes, I do know there are two horns and no, I have no intention whatsoever of butchering the loom to fit horns. What I originally asked was if the horns and connectors on the horns were the same on an X Type and an S Type. This was so I could simply remove the horns from the X Type mounting bracket and fit them to the S Type bracket and not have to change anything other than the horns themselves. I also know that there are lots of X Type horns on Ebay and not so many S Type horns on Ebay and that the S Type horns are twice as expensive as the X Type horns. This was another reason for asking the original question. As I said in my last post, I have now decided to pay the extra to have the S Type horns from Ebay (UK) so I have no doubt that they will fit without any need for modification. There were no X Type horns in the local scrapyard for comparison and no-one on the forum seems to know if the X Type and S Type horns are compatible so, unfortunately, neither I nor anyone else on the forum is any the wiser with regard to the original question. If I do find out, I will post on the forum.

They have different part numbers in JPEC and many part numbers for the various VIN ranges, so I'd say they will not be the same.
