Default Seat and steering column not doing the entry/exit mode.

After waiting about 10 days I finally got her, '05 STR. Going off memory of my '03 base, upon exit, the steering column telescopes inward and raises while the seat goes all the way back assuming it's not already all the way back...Then upon entry the seat and column go to the memory setting. The buttons to move both work so it doesn't appear to be fuse or burnt out motor. Any ideas?

Is the selector switch to the left of the steering column in Auto?

I just turned mine off. Why wear out the equipment. I can just imagine the repair bill for that. I had it on my Q45 and while it worked well (better on that car) eventually the seat track exhibited signs of wear.

I keep mine off also, although I must admit it was a sweet feature when I was shopping for cars.

Same here. I kept mine on for about the 1st two months of ownership for the gee-whiz feature to show friends. After that I grew tired of it and worried about unnecessary wear & tear.

I also turned it off. The seat is back the whole way all the time anyway and nobody else drives it, so I don't see the need to keep it on.

I read the manual cover to cover after I got the STR home. Then I re-read the navigation part about 12 times.

And ... are you still as confused as I am about how to work that thing.

The only time I ever used it in earnest was when I left a car Museum in So. Philly and we went some authentic cheese steak sandwiches then needed to get back home. I was losted. So I selected home as my destination and THAT at least was easy as pie. It picked the crappiest route though ... LOL

Confused.....In a word Bob - YES.

LOL.... i have my Home set in there and that does work. I get all tied up when i try to scroll through the map. I still can't figure out how to get it to tell me the turns in the entire route (or list the entire route in other words), or the next turn after the one displayed.

I'll be testing it out later this week on a trip to Hilton Head, but will have my Garmin handy as a backup.

Turn list is available through the Route Options I think (I'm not in the car so can't check).

I thought so too, but I haven't really got it to work yet. I'm gonna read the book....again.

Thanks jagv8 as always!

Default Solved mine

My 02 wouldn't do the exit thing either, plus it wouldn't remember the forward/backward position, turned out to be the ignition switch sticking on key removal, a squirt of WD40, problem solved, I'd pulled just about every relay and fuse and almost all my hair out previously to this, when you remove your key, there's a click as it throws the exit mode switch

Default Don't know about wear,

I do consider trying for a while using the Steering Column Auto feature.
Few days ago I enter the car and some part on my jacket hit the steering wheel and made an ugly notch on the wheel leather, really damaging it.
It is because the space between the seat and the wheel is tidy.
So I first need to see if that solve that issue at least - hitting the wheel leather,
then I will consider wearing the mechanism...
Anyway - it is cheaper to replace the steering wheel (40-100$ used in good condition on ebay) then the whole column...
