Servicing the "Sealed Box"
So, I'm a new Jaguar owner. I purchased a '00 S-type 4.0L with 83,000 miles. I've replaced the Coils and plugs and I have procured all the supplies to service the "sealed for life" 5R55N transmission. I'm planing on just dropping the pan and replacing the filter and adding back whatever fluid came back with Valvoline Mercon V fluid. at this time I'm also going to add an inline magnetic trans filter from filtermag (it's actually a ford part, but produced by filter mag). I found the below info from another site and was wondering if anyone can verify its correct?
1999 to 2002 Model 3.0L & 4.0L Stype.
The level plug is located in the centre of the drain plug. You need a scan tool to ensure the transmission oil temp is between 80°F and 120°F The target for TOT2 is 90°F as you put the car on the ramp or over a pit. You need the car idling and you need to slowly shift through all the gears and return to P (ensure D & R engage as you shift) You need to remove the fill plug from the rear of the transmission extension housing & remove the level plug. A small amount of oil should run from the level plug. If more than 250ml runs out the box has been previously over filled and the oil will be pink and full of air (NOT GOOD). If this is the case allow the oil to settle for 30 to 60 mins and start the process again ensuring the temperature reading from TOT2 is between 80 and 120°F.
If a small amount of oil, or no oil runs from the level plug you then add oil (no more the 250ml at a time) when the oil runs in a continuouse stream stop filling and as the stream starts to break refit the level plugs (10Nm)fill plug (20Nm). These box's use a bit of an odd oil that you should not mix with different grades on use oil the meets the Jaguar/Ford spec WSS-M2C 202B. If you can't see this spec on the oil you have then purchase it from Jaguar, it is very important that you use the correct oil these box's are very sensitive and very expensive to repair.
I'm not really worried at all about the "mechanics" of the job I just want to make sure that the hoops I have to jump through to get the level right are indeed correct. Has anyone else undertaken this job?

Thanks, for the reply, I'll be using and optimal digital thermometer to measure fluid temps. Any idea how long it would take to heat the fluid from 55*F to the desired temp?
