Default Shifter Gone Bad

Hello guys and gals

Just want to tell my story about my recent experience with my 2003 S.

I was a distance away from home on business, check engine light came on and car went into limp home mode, it drove very slow and couldn't climb hills. There were all types of transmission codes. My Jaguar mechanic with his 40 year experience said, the Shifter has started going bad. The dealer wanted several Hundred Dollars for a new one and a few hundred more for the mechanic.

So, I drove the car home, parked it for a week, then decided to tackle it myself.
Went to Pick & Pull junkyard, one and half hour drive each way, spent an hour removing a shifter from an S-Type R, paid $39 for it and drove home.

Next day, I spent 2 hours removing and replacing the shifter.

Took the car for a drive..... Lo and behold!!!!! the car had taken a new life, as if it woke up from a 14 Year Coma. The shift points had changed and the car became more responsive to the gas pedal, I can hear the engine and exhaust roaring now. My car used to be a slow-response Old man's car. Finally, I'm enjoying driving this car again.

Cheers

Good work on the repair. Any idea what actually failed on the old shifter?
