Shifter Part
After parking my 2000 S-type 4.0 on an incline and foolishly trying to force my gear shift into reverse, I ended up breaking a white plastic part inside my gear box thru which a metal rod runs. Cable and gears, etc. are all fine. All I need to do is replace this plastic part but I have no idea what it's called.....can someone help?
Firstly welcome to the Forum.
When the car is sorted, please do an Intro in the New Members Area.
The most common item to break is the White Plastic/Nylon slider on the gearlever itself inside the console. I cannot find a drawing of it at the moment. Someone will have one and post it soon enough.
I am not aware of any plastic bits actually inside the transmission to break, but I may be wrong.

It's been described before if it's the part in the J-gate.
When fixed, be sure to use the park brake before letting up the foot brake and before putting trans into park. That avoids the stress that caused the break.
