Should I Get While Getting is Good??
What's up Jaguarians... I recently purchased a 2000 Jaguar s type v8 supercharge 88 k miles nice looking and runs amazing car I put 20inch rims ,system, grill, and my hours of waxing into it...I love it it's my second one..and in my neighborhood I'm Mr Daddy MoreBucks !! They think I'm hundreadair!! And enjoy the attention ..in reality I'm homeless loss job due to covid19 and stay in a small camper behind a house I will eventually start work again but knowing reputation of this jag and I'm driving it around town like a soccer mom on speed!! And I fear every time it makes a funny noise or rattel that a repair is coming and I won't be able to cover it and end up selling for Penny's to get some transportation to a job or check my empty bank account soo big question is sell now and give up the only thing makes me smile at these times or keep and ride till wheels fall off??
Sell if you'd like to see the car go to someone who's willing to put some upkeep $ into it to enjoy a very unique "on the cheap"...relatively... luxury ride. At 88k and and it's age it's very likely due for an input of parts $, let alone labor, to give the car many more enjoyable miles. Then again, for it's current market value and if it's running well, drive it till it drops and enjoy the ride. Let her go when major problems pop up. What else can you drive for it's current $ value?? Likely due for suspension bushes, possible transmission rebuild or at least flush and fill, assuming it's a ZF, maybe brakes, hoses, climate control valve, coolant recovery tank, possibly tires...etc. Age takes its toll. Bought my well used 80k '05 S type R for $12k and over 4 years put another $3,500 into her so when I sold her she was in really great driving condition good for many more miles and looked better than ever....short of a sagging headliner needing attention. A great ride for modest total outlay. Tons of compliments and a great driving experience for used Honda price. No complaints, everything considered, as I knew what I was biting off when I bought it. Ok, a few $surprises, but what fun ride.
Yes, it was a 4.2 supercharged R...ZF tranny, Brembo's etc. Now driving XF which I love...though not as striking styling as the retro S nor is interior as noticeably "Jaguarish". But a far more advanced ride as well as technically advanced overall. S type R was my first street Jag. Few used R's were available when I found mine so bit off a bit of a project in need of some pampering. Unfortunately missed out on several lower mileage R's that were in far better mechanical condition but they sold quickly.

I remember right after college, driving to a job interview, watching the temp gauge climbing in my then 10 year old car and freaking out. As a young man, in that situation, I wasn't sure whether to keep driving and risk the engine or pull over and give up a job that I really wanted (there were no cell phones back then, I would have had to keep driving to look for pay phone). I kept going and made it there, barely. Of course I flubbed the interview because on top of being nervous, I was worried about my car, the whole time, anxious to go see what was wrong with it. After the interview, found coolant running across the parking lot, and there I was in a suit and tie in the middle of summer. It was just an old hose that sprung a leak and then boiled over after the engine shut off, but it cost me that job.
When I finally did land a job a month later (making far less money btw), first thing I did was to go buy a brand new, cheap, little Ford Ranger pickup with a warranty. Starting out a new career, paying my dues as they say, I wasn't going to risk my new job to a 10 year old car with 102K miles (that's not so much today, but was considered way past its sell-by date back then).
