Six Years of S-Type Ownership....

Six Years of S-Type Ownership....
Hard to believe that tomorrow marks six years of our 2005 S-Type 3.0 being part of our motoring stable. We've taken it from 18,000 miles at acquisition to right at 86,400 miles now. I've had to address the usual S-Type flaws as they poked me but all things considered, it continues to be a great bang-for-the-buck rear-wheel-drive highway cruiser that gets superb gas mileage for a four-door sedan. It continues to perform well with its original battery and original DCCV which is almost unheard of....
When I designed my cost/benefit analysis for this car during the Christmas 2008 holidays, I set it up for a six-year ownership period. We've reached that milestone rather comfortably and there's absolutely no financial reason at this point to unload the car. So as long as it manages to stay in the black on my financial charts, I'm keeping it as my daily driver. And it still makes me smile every time I climb behind the wheel. That's a big plus as well....
Most of the S-Type forum members who joined when I did have long since moved on to other vehicles. I sincerely hope that I won't have to do that for years to come. Time will indeed tell....

Makes you wonder just when the uninformed general public are going to lose that Jaguar stigma that has existed way too long.
Comments like, I love your Jag must cost you fortune in up keep etc. No not really after years of ownership I've only done scheduled maintenance and most if not all of that has cost less than a local run of the mill car.
This forum wouldn't exist unless there was something special about our cars. Good to see more positives.

Repeat after me:
"Useless piece of unreliable trash. If I can finally get it started, there's a 50/50 chance it won't make it to the main dealer to have it fixed, again. If I do make it all the way without catching fire, it's obviously a miracle and call the Pope."

I still wish I had the '06, ran real great. But, it was a 4 year lease in her name and that was that. It was in the shop only twice, first time was for a funky gas guage that was cured with new jet pump and assorted items. Previous owner let the gas drop too low and caused funky things to happen.
Second time was the battery and the dealer replaced lots of 'normal wear' items (under warranty). Other than that, no problems.

I still have my S Type after 14 years of ownership. It's been the best car I ever owned and I still enjoy driving it. The only problem I've had is window regulator clip failures ( 6 ) but I've become so expert in fixing them it has not been very expensive or difficult. All the other repairs were pretty much maintenance that one would expect with 120K miles.
I must thank you Jon as well as JAgV8, Gus and other veteran members that have been so generous with their experience and knowledge about these fine cars.

Agreed Jon, since we will be coming up this Feb. on 6 years of ownership as well. Joyce still to this day cherishes her 2005 S Type. I have asked several times over the past few years if she is ready for something new either a Jaguar or another marquee, put quite simply she is not interested.
After ironing out a couple wrinkles in the beginning, the vehicle has been very reliable these past couple of years and to think this is the time that we should be dumping funds into it to keep it running. So time will go on with Joyces Jag in our stable for what looks like a long time.

Congrats Jon89 ! I hope my S is still going in six years!
81k miles on her now, I got her in July this year with 76k
I've done a water pump replacement, accessory belt, thermostat, coolant change, new lug ( wheel) nuts, battery.
Planned for spring next year is: imt o rings, plugs, coils, sway bar end links, diagnose erratic climate control, and some suspension bushings.
Some tlc and I think she'll be fine!

I hope never. I can afford one only because the resale value is so low and am in the mood for buying another, so let's keep up the negative image as beast we can.

6 years 3rd owner(?) and just broke 270,000K. Some rust; some headaches; some bills. Thanks for all the help here. I've done a lot myself and let go where it was over my head. Still feeling pretty good about the elbow replacement and the subsequent "other" issues that I surmounted. That wonderful warm feeling when it's back together and it starts up first try!!
