Default slight transmission leak

A year and a half ago I had the sump filter and oil changed on my str due to a massive leak which I was told was due to a distorted sump pan on taking the car to a local jaguar indie requested them to change the sleeve as well it turned out that they ignored or forgot to replace the sleeve in the last couple of days I have noticed a small spot of transmission fluid on my garage floor it appears to be coming towards the rear of the trannie and on the right hand side
If it turns out the be the sleeve I was thinking of doing it my self.one thing that worries me is if I come across any of the sump bolts that cant undo and snap has any one done this and would you recommend changing the sump pan even though it is only 18 months old opinions welcomed

Hello Philip and greetings from down under.

First advice? Strongly suggest you edit signature to include year, model, engine, variant so the advice is accurate and relevant. Second? What connection are you implying between engine sump, oil filter etc and ATF leak? Or . . . are all your comments related to the transmission. Clarification needed.

Cheers and best wishes,

Ken

according to his profile its an 2002 zircon blue STR . so ZF trans.
if it were me id change the pan just for the new pan seal and fresh filter . and to be fussy
don't think you need to though so its your call . id just feel better about the unplanned flush .

hi not engine sump the zf transmission has a sump pan and filter the whole issue is the sump pan filter and oil are 18 months old the leak dose not appear to be coming from the sump that's why I suspect the rubber sleeve where the wireing goes through into the transmission when the sump pan was changed I requested the garage to change the sleeve as a precaution but they did not do it so think that, that sleeve is now leaking

Gotcha. Then drop the a/t pan (let's not call it the sump), change the sleeve, kiss your mechanic goodbye for not doing so, and follow procedures for correct filling and checking.

I'm inclined to agree with [Datsports] about doing a full kit replacement. The pan may not (should not) be leaking now, but R&R cam sometimes leave the pan rim flexed or distorted, then leak on re-assembly. Don't want to do the job twice.

Best wishes,
Ken

with the pan being quite new and not leaking would it be possible to to drain the pan and just replace the sleeve. As having a look today I can see where the sleeve is

I look at the plastic pan as a wear item. So if you run into a stuck bolt don't worry to much. If you need to you can break the plastic pan up and the bolts will remain and will be sticking out. Then you can use heat and vice grips to get them out. Much easier.

Don't know if you are aware but Jaguar upgraded the pan bolts to. They made them larger. I replaced mine when I did the sealing sleeve and fluid change.
Some people don't.

Don't forget to check the two small bolts holding the shift cable to the drivers side of the transmission. Just a slight snug is all they need and they can loosen and even fall out over time.

Have you had the latest TCM software installed? Or at least checked to see if you have the latest version?

thanks for the heads up will get everything pan bolts and sleeve have heard about the shift cable bolts falling off and people being stuck in park so will check those regarding tcm software I think the previous owner saying something about the box being updated I dont have any lurch problems and box shifts very smoothly
