Could've bought a used one. Very common and cheap trans.
Things to do with a trans fault: get advice (here), get multiple quotes and from the right places. Trans shops spring to mind...

I know it is easy to be an armchair general (especially on the intertubes) but surely it is now worth trying to collect on the powertrain warranty? Would it really cost more than that to take the guy to court and get an order against him for the costs?
Even if you just broke even, at least you wouldn't be letting this guy get away with scamming you and he may think twice before repeating his behaviour...

thanks man i agree, I am going to file a motion i even wrote two pages on the event that occurred so that I could show the judge... why was i told it would be about 1500 to rebuild and the shop said 5500 ?
Average proper rebuild of the Ford 5R55N trans is in the $2,000 - $2,500 range - this does include a rebuilt torque converter - More than likely for $1,500 your getting a partial rebuild or a rebuild w/o converter....
I paid more than $2,500 for my rebuild (full blown out rebuild) but I paid for an extended warranty as well...
