i prob cant help much i'm just trying to understand your problem a little better,
does the car reach a higher gear than 3rd if driven without full throttle ?
is it the same in sport and normal mode ?

I haven't seen anyone recomending disconnecting the battary for half an hour on this, would that maybe clear what the gearbox has "learned" or would it make matters worse ?

Thanks

JAGV8 thanks
i agree with ur points and i'll start by checking and srvicing the fuel parts

ragarding point 5: 5. problem with ignition (coil/plug/wiring etc for them, but you also need a good battery and preferably alternator etc)

am using Jaguar battery but it is really old (5 years) and needs to be replaced. so is there any different brand with good quality and long life like the original ?

again thanks and i really appreciate ur help

it's an amazing car but it need people like u to maintain it i own lexus lx570 but i enjoy the S type more

I belive disconecting the battary for a certain length of time resets all the information the car has "learned" from gearbox settings to window and seat positions, but i'd check with someone who knows what they are talking about before doing it, you never know your gearbox my have just "learned" something it shouldnt.

This points away from 'not making enough power'. I find it suspicious that the engine accelerates quite rapidly to a given RPM then just sits there. It appears not to be hitting the rev limiter which would be apparent via an engine stutter.

I'm stumped.

If there's no-one trustable to maintain the car, I'd get JTIS and start spending time understanding it (quite a lot of time) - with visits to net sites like howstuffworks. And if you haven't already, get a decent OBD tool (I got AE - AutoEnginuity with the jag extra). If you really don't want to spend as much as AE costs, I found the elm327 OK but it's very very limited (as are all tools that don't have the jag extras, because the car has say 12 modules and other tools only show 1).

This gives an idea of the kinds of things the 1 module (PCM) is doing:
OnBoardDiagnostics.com - Engine Basics

Well I fully understand your problem, but am pretty stumped on the fix. I can say that a 5 year old battery is pushing it, so I'd replace that for good measure, and hell, it might just fix it. lol Crazy things happen with failing batteries in these cars. But I'm still leaning towards a TCM re-flash if you have no codes. It seams to me that under WOT the TCM forgets it has anymore gear... or the PCM cuts power at 160k thinking it's at it's max??? I've got no clue, sorry, Good Luck.

Police666, resetting the battery will not reset the TCM. That has to be done via a dealer type tool.
