steering column sqeeky
Any help appreciated,
Read post about steering column sqeeking and that they added some type of lubricant to steering resevoire from jag dealers, i rang jag dealer and they told me it as to be drained then topped back up then add the lubricant to it, is this true or can u just add it without draining .

Prior to pouring the additive into our S-Type's power steering fluid reservoir, I used an old veterinary hypodermic needle body (without the actual needle in place) to siphon out enough old fluid to match the volume of additive I would be pouring in. Worked like a charm, and our power steering unit has been silent as a tomb ever since (March 2010 if I remember correctly)....
Essentially what I did. I didn't do the "heating" step in the TSB as I reckon that's just so the noise is cured ASAP and the dealer can hand the car right back.

You take out the same volume as the bottle of additive or more. Put it aside, pour in the additive, make sure the level is correct and top up if necessary.
I would get rid of the old fluid first. Mine was very black and smelly. I filled the reservoir and ran the car for a couple of days and did it again. After 3 changes the fluid was clean but I still had the noise. Then I found out about the additive. Which you can also get from Ford because the Lincoln LS has the same problem.
Fixed the noise after a week or so of use. 50K miles later and it's still quiet although the fluid is quite black again and I am considering changing it once more.

Took my 2016 XJL ~ 40k mi into the dealer while under warranty. They diagnosed the steering noise as a wire harness in the steering housing and replaced the item. In the process of repairing they damaged the pins for the heated steering wheel resulting in another (covered) trip to the dealer for them to replace my wood wheel. The squeak noise did go away for a short bit but returned.
SIDE BAR before dealing with the steering squeak again other items in the car were taking precedence. The lower coolant hose below the super charger sprung a leak, seems pretty common. Still covered by warranty. Got the car back and they didn't align a wheel housing so when I took sharp turns it was grinding the plastic. Back to the dealer and they snapped it back in. Shortly after I started to hear low speed noise from the engine. The dealer diagnosed it as the timing chain. Still under warranty it took over 6 weeks for the dealer and the manufacture to work thru the process. Finally upon the insistence of the manufacture they replaced the high pressure fuel pumps (there is a bulletin on this https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...96533-1020.pdf) which solved the issue - it was NEVER the chain. The dealer did however leave the left side air intake to the air filter open while replacing the fuel pumps (they didn't snap the plastic pieces together) and didn't clamp down a fuel hose resulting in a gas smell that took 2 weeks for me to figure out (I thought i was smelling gas because the air intake housing to the air filter was left open). At this time I decided I better replace the engine and cabin air filters.. They were disgusting. So much for the manufacture included scheduled maintenance.
Then the car goes out of warranty based on time. I am absolutely reluctant to bring it back to the dealer based on the 3 instances above where there were subsequent issues post their repairs so I bought the fluid and followed the instructions and the squeak went away. **Took a slow 20 minute test drive and it returned with a vengeance.** Parked the car and let it cool, from that point forward I never heard the noise again (2k miles later). It's all about getting it to the right temperature, letting it mix and distribute and then cooling so that it properly adheres to the seals.
