carloner, I read that Eurotoys uses a Vieszu bench-tune for its ECU tunes. Though it's likely to have allowed 438 hp/488 lb/ft trq., I have yet to see an official dyno-sheet verifying this. Bacardi, your guess is as good as mine regarding TCM shift logic post ECU tune. Others have mentioned improved shift points following an ECU tune.

I wonder how that is, according to the white papers on the TCM, the TCM controls shift points, My guess is a positive reaction to the engines ability to beathe.

Some transmitions like the T-350 and 700R4 love the high HP andTQ figures, hence why they are so common.
they act really funny with little HP.

Any Updates here? Do we have someone/someplace we can send our ECU's or take our cars for a "Legitimate" TQ/HP upgrade??

What will be jeopardized is the ZF transmission if those shift points are raised. Our feeble trannies are only rated at 440 ft lbs torque MAX ... that said... I'll take the risk!

My BMW tuner echoed the sentiment that the ECU SHOULD help with shift points by spitting the information to the TCM, but I suspect only a seperate TCU tune would give max benefit. Something like what modernhorsepower offers.

Peace.

Good odds it's just the butt dyno...For the record, eurotoys ECU tune's description never mentions anything about shifting or shift points, just A/F, timing and throttle response...For the price of $995 plus you most likely pay for your own shipping, if their tune alter shift points I believe they'd list that...

"R haters" are quick to point out the shift points are:
1st to 2nd at 5250
2nd to 3rd at 5750
3rd to 4th 5900

I've never checked my shift points although it feels low, it looks like I won't have the opportunity to do any WOT runs until the weekend...

Docuzzie and all, I'm confident we'll soon have a verifiable bench tune for all to enjoy. It'll likely be superior to anything Eurotoys, etc. offers, and at a much lower cost if we have enough interested in a group buy. Mafioso, I'll soon need a "Chiller", praying your close. A dyno-tune shortly after warm-up will likely yield the best results. Without a "Chiller; I'll need to let her sit till the intercooler temps. baseline to the first temp. reading. Post ECU tune should yield higher shift points.

Max TQ for 2008 STR is shown on jag's site as 541 Nm, 399 ft lb. Max TQ for 6HP26 looks like 600 Nm, 443 ft lb, and I don't know how likely you are to get more than 10% extra Max TQ.......

(My feeling is "not very"! Unless with a TS......)

For the Record, I've put aside some change for the Mafioso Intake Elbo, Rotors and Pads are getting done this weekend (Still waiting on the Rear Rims and Tires). I think I need to get another STR. One to keep showroom ready and one to drive until the wheels fall off.

Doesn't the STR only brake the 400ft/lbs mark at 6000RPMs and not peak until 6100RPMs? If the shift points don't change, is a stock STR even capable of 400ft/lbs?

From jag's specs I just posted: no.

But I bet variation in production means some will be yes, just. At the time of production. Not necessarily some years later.....

Hey David - great to hear from ya. You know our friend Jason has his 2003 up for sale - has a thread on it - ...should you want to add another STR to your already impressive stable you probably couldn't find a nicer one to get from a more trusted source.

Keep us in the loop on those wheels my man!

EDIT - sorry for the off topic departure Seth and the gang - now back to the good stuff....

we definitely need the rev limiter to be bumped up to 7,000rpm ish.. and trans line pressure to be increased to to firm up the shifts...

I missed this...Two things, first I'll bet a full exhaust and 3lb pulley will get you to and even over 443 ft/lbs and if they don't get you a there an ecu tune in conjunction with the other mods certainly will. Second, if you're unable to change the shift points then you're never reaching peak anyways...I've monitored my shift points during some WOT runs and unfortunately I would bet money that doing an ecu tune would have no effect on the shift points

Today I spoke with Justin of Lomotion (Poughkeepsie, NY). His tuner will arrive this weekend. I'm to check-in on Saturday to meet the tuner and discuss strategy to dyno-tune. Excited but regret not having a "Chiller Killer". We'll dyno shortly after warm-up then wait till cool again before next run....
