STR top speed if uncorked?
Does anyone have any solid confirmation of the STR's top speed if uncorked (i.e., if the speed governer is removed)? I know there have been some discussions in this in the past but I couldn't find any posts. By comparison, here are some similiar cars and their top speeds (those not restricted to 155 mph, which seems to be the norm):
1986 AMG Hammer (6.0 liter NA, 396 HP): 186 MPH
2004 Cadillac CTS-V (6.0 liter NA, 400 HP): 163 MPH
2002 Ferrari 360 (3.6 liter NA, 400 HP): 189 MPH
2002 Porsche 911 Turbo (3.6 liter Twin Turbo, 415 HP): 189 MPH
2001 Corvette Z06 (5.7 liter NA, 405 HP): 168 MPH
Unfortuntely these are the only cars I could find in the 400 HP club that are unrestricted. Others such as the 2002 BMW M5, 2011 Mustang GT, 2006 Pontiac GTO 6.0, 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP, 2010 BMW M3, and 2005 Saleen S281 supercharged are all restricted to 155 MPH as well. I doubt our cars are as fast as the Ferrari and Porsche (different gear ratios, heavier, etc.) and so I think our top speed is closer to that of the 2004 Cadillac CTS-V. I have no idea how the Hammer gets to 186 MPH, so I will just consider that an odd car out. Anyone have any thoughts? Or any other cars in the low 400 HP range that are more similiar to the STR that are unrestricted to compare with?

One interesting thing I found in my research is that according to Road & Track, the 2002 BMW M5 and the STR share identical lateral acceleration: 0.85g. Also, both have similiar mild to moderate understeer accrdoing to the same Road & Track comparison test. Interesting thing, since in the early 2000s the M5 was said to be the best handling saloon by so many automotive journalists.
Also, the research I did shows that the 2001 Z06 has short gear ratios so the STR probably is around its top speed range.

Just confirmed that a 400hp auto six speed camaro will do 175mph on the salt flats with the speed limiter removed. Being that they are 39XX curb weight, that would be my guess for the top speed o the STR as well.
It may already be uncorked
STR has the same driveline as our X350 XJR's, the trick is to have it in Sport mode and put the shifter in 5th, not in D.
I hit the limiter in Germany with the car in D & sport mode off, indicated 160mph which was actually 155mph with the speedo error (ironically the car knows exactly how fast you are going, the speedo is purposely displaying higher speed)
One bloke from the UK with an X350 XJR saw an indicated 170mph using the 5th/Sport trick on a trip through Germany, and i also saw 170mph on a couple of occaisons in 5th/Sport, again German Autobahn FTW.
If you had a long enough stretch of road, I reckon 175-180mph could be possible, but getting those last 15-20mph out of it takes a lot of road.
But don't try it out on a public road boys & girls, stay safe.

In the meanwhile, here is a youtube video of some guy doing 260 kph (162 mph) on the Autobahn in an STR...
I presume he is electronically limited as I know of no one that offers a computer program to erase governer...
