Hey everyone, I've been trying to follow some guides to replace the window regulator, but I'm stuck at the point of trying to free the window from the regulator, I've been following the guide on Jagrepair and I've removed all the bolts labelled A and B in this picture:
However the window seems still very stuck in place, I've seen a few mentions of a plastic push pin to push out, but I can't seem to find any mention of where it is, has anyone got any tips? Thanks Car is a 2004 S-Type
First you need reconnect the wiring, and lower the window about halfway. Remove the speaker assembly. Just loosen the black tabs around the edge and let it hang.
Once the window is about halfway down, you should see a clamp with a bolt in it on each side of the regulator, loosening this will release the glass. Make sure you slide the glass all the way up and secure. You should be able to get the window regulator out and replace.
For reference - the plastic pin that gets pushed out is for the rear window regulators
Hope this helps - if anymore questions, feel free to ask
I always first remove all the bolts around the speaker/module assembly. Then reach in behind and disconnect the harness plug from the regulator motor. You need to make sure this speaker assembly is placed well to the side as the window regulator needs to be removed via this hole.
Before that maybe best first to hand retighten all the nuts you've unscrewed so the regulator stays put and doesn't drop while you unplug the motor, then reach in the left hand hole and unplug the door latch. Then loosen the 2 glass bottom cradle bolts, no need to fully remove; reach in with a 10mm small spanner I think if they are not aligned to the door frame holes Then tape the glass up so it doesn't drop and then fold and manoeuvre the regulator out from behind the speaker cavity as mentioned.
I found no plastic push pin.
When you reassemble make sure you grease up the rails nicely using a long thin brush.
Hi both, thanks for replying. I think I understand what I'm supposed to do now, but the regulator is stuck so I can't roll down the window by plugging it in, is there a way to manually roll down the window, I have the glass cradles off but there seems to be a small plastic nub in the way stopping the window from dropping down any further.
Many ways to skin a cat as the saying goes and JBzXJ40 mentions a correct way in what he says.
If the regulator plastic side sliders (the most common bits that break) are very broken I don't like forcing things. Meaning you are still able to remove the assembly still in its position where it last stopped and the window stays up in the removal, do not attempt to force it down or 'drop' it.
Sounds like you're nearly there and good to see you're not hurrying!
Secure the glass up with say a broad tape, you've loosened the cradles so pull the regulator away from the door frame bolt holes and its likely you will eventually work out the best way to slide it out through the speaker/module cavity.
Looks like in your x204 they ditched the 8mm bolts that hold the speaker surround in my x202 with plastic clips; why would you bother?
Good luck
To be honest I've never tried manually rolling the window down. You could cut the cable and let it slide down, otherwise you'll need to squeeze your hand up there with a 10mm gear wrench and lossen the clamps on the glass that way. I have done it this way before, takes a little bit, but it will come out.
Managed to get it out! After taking off the cradles I very gently tapped the top right thread labelled "B" until it fell out, I was then able to manoeuvre it off the bottom of the window, then I was able to manoeuvre the top left thread with some gentle taps and rotating that arm anitclockwise until it was also free of the window and then manoeuvre everything out of the speaker hole.
