Default sunroof

Each time I open my sunroof and then close it, there is a big glob of grease/tar on it. The globs are getting smaller each time I open it. What is causing this? It is near the passenger side about four inches from the side.

The roof panel area to the rear of the sliding roof has a sound deadening mastic. Sounds to me like it is melting or deteriorating and dripping down on the sliding roof (if it is on the top of the sliding roof).

If the smear is on the bottom of the sliding roof, then I would say it already fell down and is now resting on the top of the headliner.

Lower the head liner to investigate. That's the only way to be sure.
