Exclamation Tire size, Appropriate?? Advice please

I have a S-type 4.0 (sport pkg), and my rear tires need changing. The standard tire size for the car is 235/50/17. If I change my Rear Tires to 255/50/17, will that give me a staggered look if I do that?? Thanks

Why do you want to change tyre sizes in the rear?

Wheel size will be bigger than recommended and would they be safe.....

Safety or 10mm visible extra width?

Wonder if it would throw codes.

Well, It would be staggered, not just look like it.

The "staggered look" is normally achieved with different offset wheels. A true staggered setup is done with different width wheels and tires in the rear.

I'm afraid that running that width in the rear will only go a little towards the staggered look I think you want.

I also don't know if that size will fit on a standard wheel without hitting and or rubbing. It is also a decent amount off. The correct size to run to maintain overall diameter is 255/45/17. They will be wider but still maintain the stock diameter and height.

Here is a tire calculator that will show you the impact of different sizes.

While larger than recommended wheel and tyre combinations may seem desirable, or give the vehicle a more 'aggressive' look, installing wider wheels and tyres or changing the offset may increase wear on other suspension and braking system components due to alignment angle changes, increased unsprung weight or bearing load.

Most reputable tyre shops will provide installation recommendations that will allow different wheels to be used whilst maintaining correct body clearance, suspension geometry and of course, safety.

Try a shop that deals with high line automobiles. In Atlanta, a franchise called Butler tire can you up on correct fitments to get the look you want, all within specs...you just have to open a few wallets because they ain't reasonable at all...everything at luxury rate.
