Default trans code

Hay, i was driving my jaguar s type r 2005 just fine for most the day it wasn't shifting hard or anything smooth and good.

i parked it and left for about 1 hour to a 1 hour and 30 minutes and when i get back and try to start my car i get a trans fault code and it wont shift into gear it grabs on and grabs off anyone know why this happened? There is no fluid leaked out and i put new fluid into it before its not to old.

Thanks.

Have you checked the two small bolts that connect the shift cable to the transmission?

I trust you are aware that the ZF 6HP26 auto will no be a happy chappy if you hit & miss top up the fluid. There is a quite specific temperature dependent process for setting the fluid level . . . difficult, but not impossible to DIY, but important you do it properly.

Best wishes,

Ken

Check plugs and coils. Had a very similar issue that was caused by this. The jag is not good at giving misfire codes.

That's good advice from BlackKat, because he is stating a well known issue whereby plug misfires (?oiled plug holes) can mimic exactly your symptoms . . . as can a variety of other issues!

So, can I refer you back to the earlier post by [JagV8] that says it all - you simply must get the codes read (our understanding is that Autozone or similar in your area will do it for free) and post the actual codes here - not any interpretations please.

Without that info, parlour guessing games of all possible options, are really great fun - but quickly become frustrating for everyone - and potentially expensive for you.

Best wishes,

Ken

Result of post #2?

Details of codes are in JTIS (free download) / code PDF (free) / Gus's site (free).

Hopefully! Well worth 5 mins to check.

You can see the bolts in one of the videos here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...age-faq-45959/

Wrong meaning of P1316. It's a severe misfire doing cat damage.

(If all else fails, download the info for free.)

Usually bad coils.

Misfires (or other engine codes) sometimes upset the trans.

Have a read on what others did with those codes. Drop the weird space in them (and the $11 which is the PCM's address - who cares...).
