Trans Cooler Bypass?
Hello, new member here with a question. My 2003 S-Type radiator blew a tank so I had the local Pep Boys order a replacement. I just received it and realized there are no Trans Cooler Line bungs, can the lines be safely bypassed in these cars or am I dead in the water without a different radiator?
Do not Bung the lines , that would not be wise at all !
I've seen in the past people looping them together for a temporary fix or to just shift a car around , but its not the right way to solve your problem ether .
Not only does the cooler restrict peak temps it also brings the trans up to temp in a timely manner . Hence it being called a heat exchanger not a cooler .
Take it back its there mistake not yours , did they even ask for a vin no# before ordering it ?
I'm kind of guessing the year of your car , but if it has the zf gearbox I'd take no risks !
Don't know about the ford box but still if you like your car then do it right .

I just posted this subject a few days ago.
I order the radiator from Jaguar because it is the most cost effective replacement.
aholbro1 and I have had this discussion and the cost is about four hundred something USD for the correct one from Jaguar (wholesale price, I don't know what retail is).
Someone might have the aftermarket AUTO TRANS version in production now but that was not the case a year ago. RockAuto had a radiator for the AUTO but it was MORE EXPENSIVE than the Jaguar OEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The early S-Types used a gearbox cooler that did not involve the engine coolant radiator. It was a tandem PAS and gearbox air to fluid heat exchanger.
You could get BRAVE and try to 'bodge in' the earlier cooler and keep the manual gearbox radiator.
AS DATSPORTS stated the advantage of the Engine coolant radiator/heat exchanger is that it warms the gearbox fluid sooner and then keeps it at operating temp.
