Default transmission fluid

alright so i know i have the 6hp26 transmission, when i changed out my radiator i lost a little transmission fluid, is it ok to top it off by just pouring it in the hose that goes to the radiator? or is there a better way to do it? also i dont want to overfill it so does anyone know how much trans fluid is in the radiator? and which type fluid should i be using, i know there was a big argument a while back about this but i dont remember what was decided.

Dude I'm with you...Have you checked the level of xenon gas in your HID headlamp bulbs? It is okay to top them off if you determine they're low...

If it was about oil, coolant or atf ... probably nothing.

Seemed a good enough OP and I thought I'd given a good enough answer. It needs filling properly and how to do it is detailed in the FAQs. Don't do it any other way is my feeling.

The proper fluid is now not too costly and hardly any will be needed so why not just use it.......

I don't believe so. Maybe David Copperfield could tell you

mchrull:

The factory procedure is to check the transmission level after disturbing the coolant pipes. It is an involved process as outlined in the FAQ for fluid changing. I believe, after adding new fluid, you have to monitor the transmission temperature as the fluid expands and the excess dribbles out of the drain plug. When you reach the proscribed temperature you have to reinstall the drain plug quickly to prevent losing too much fluid. The car has to be level and running, and you have to work around a hot exhaust pipe. All in all it sounds like a PITA.

Good luck, and let us know how you fare.
