I have read most of the threads concerning transmission surge, however, I found no mention of a growl at the same time. RRR RRR RRR like a grinding/rubbing sound. My '03 S Type 3.0 does this: Between cold start and fully operating temp at 1500-2000 RPM the car surges, the tack fluctuates 200-300 RPM and there is a loud growling sound which sounds like it is comming from the rear right side. Get above 2000 RPM and it stops. Sometimes the temp indicator is in the middle but it still does it with less surge and not as loud of a growl. My extended warranty is up March 2012 so if it is the torque converter I need to act soon. DonR

 

Sounds like one of the TSBs - have a look

But as you have a warranty can't you just hand it over "it's wrong .... fix it"?

Mine does it too, only in cold weather for the first 10-20 KM.

 

You may need to check your software level to make sure you have the latest programming.
