Default Transponder Won't Unlock Doors (at first)

Couldn't find this issue discussed elswhere so here it goes:

My transponder remote will not work to unlock the doors or trunk. So I have to use the flip key to unlock the driver door. That triggers the security system; lights flashing and horn blaring until I start the engine.

About 10 seconds after using the flip key in the door or trunk, the transponder remote does work as usual. Then when the car is locked for about 20 minutes, the transponder is locked off again until I use the flip key.

The dealer said it could be a "thisit" at a cost of $800.00, or a "thatsit" at a cost of $1,200.00; or both....

Since my wife just doesn't get the "Jaguar Experience", she would get very embarassed in parking lots.

In typical Brutal repair elegance, I disconected the horn.

Anyone have another solution?

Please put car details in (see below). Also, what happens with your 2nd remote fob? Is it the same?

Thanks for input. As you can see, I'm new to this forum stuff. I'll check out the other key fob, when I find it...

I'd make sure that the battery in the fob is properly seated, or just change it and see if it helps.

An anti-static mylar film strip covering the electronics inside the key fob can also help with flaky key transponder issues. The original lessee of our particular car reported flaky key operation to his dealer. The mylar strips were added to both fobs and presto, no more fob issues. Both fobs continue to serve us well with no issues to this point....

JagV8, I did try my other key fob and the issue was the same. It appears that the problem is in the electronics of the car itself, not the transponder.

Thanks for the input.

Well, that rules out the easy answers, I think

It may be a faulty module, though I'm not convinced.
I think it's the DDM (driver's door module) that handles this stuff. Someone may know or have a better idea.

You couldn't have a failing car battery? I guess as the voltage drops so would the sensitivity of the receiver for the fob.
