Default Tribotex is it snake oil ?

Snake oil ?...5 star reviews on Amazon say no. Has anyone here tried this ? Amazon also has a 100% guarantee but I'm not sure if it's on a product like this. I'm looking to help timing chains and tensioners and cams etc last longer.. My car runs great as is but seems to have some mechanical noise going on.. Also opinions on super oils like AmsOil or Royal Purple are very much appreciated.. Thanks all

Any product that claims to be able to reverse wear on engines goes in the snake oil category in my opinion.

There's nothing super about Amsoil or Royal Purple. They just cost more.

There's no known lubrication issues on the 3.0,4.0 or 4.2 engines, so expensive boo-teek oils will just empty your wallet faster. Jag does not even specify synthetic oils for the S-type.

Snake oil.

Only use it if it makes YOU feel better. May or may not harm the car.

Describe the 'mechanical noise' you're attempting to address.

Thanks for asking. Before I answer I want to go to Eurotech that did past work on this car before I bought it and open the hood to listen with him.. I'm 68 and played RR music since the 60s. The high end of the audible spectrum is toast.

I checked with ebay and Amazon who will both return my money if it doesn't meet my expectations..The test will be that I drove 2 / 300 mi round trips to Jacksonville and back on cruise control last month and got almost the exact same highway mileage both times. (24.56 and 24.7mpg)The next trip in 4 weeks it'll be time to change to the same Castrol Edge oil with the "snake oil" added and I'll report the results. I'm interested because it has 679 reviews on ebay with 100% satisfaction and 20 on Amazon with 4 1/2 stars and great reviews there too.

They also got this grant for their research. https://nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1456394

Did you determine the nature and source of the 'mechanical noise'?

Yes.. It's nothing out of the ordinary. He just said it "sounds good" and "the 4 cams under those thin covers are going to make some noise" Thanks.. I love this car.

This is an interesting read..https://nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1456394

I've checked MPG every fill up since I bought this 12yr old Jag with 120k on the ODO and wrote them all down. Mileage on hwy trips has always been 24.5 +/- a few 10ths. After TriboTex and adding the suggested run in of 500mi around town I just got 29.4mpg on a hwy trip on rt95 on the same 80mph cruise control and AC on...I couldn't believe it and did the numbers three times. I'll report highway and city again after the 300mi round trip to Mayo Clinic in 2 weeks.. My around town MPG went from 17-18 to 20+ so it doesn't look like I'll be asking for a refund.

I get those types of mpg numbers all the time without using hokey snake oil products.

Like I said my hwy MPG has been within a few 10th of a mpg every fill for 2.5yrs. It never got any where near 29mpg on the hwy. Always 24. and a few 10th mpg. Never hit 25

I'm 68,was a mechanic half my life and never fell for any additives but the first thing that made me want to try this is the $746,000 grant they got.. https://nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1456394

The second are how many positive reviews there are on on Amazon and other places...

The third reason is before buying I sent a message through Amazon asking why there was no 100% satisfaction guaranty like everything else I ever bought on Amazon and Alex from Tribotex sent me one in writing so I'd get my money back if I wasn't happy..

May 7 I have another 300mi hwy round trip and will report again May8

if this or any similar product was half as good as they claim, why dont' the big oil companies use it themselves?

Right, so you have/had a faulty car. My STR does better than that.

Instead of snake oil, investigate what's wrong.

Wow.. the claimed MPG
"2005 STR
City MPG:15 Highway MPG:22"

The stated 3.0 mpg is 16 and 23 and my fuel trims are right on the money.. at my usual Highway 24.5mpg for 2.5yrs what would you think was wrong with my car?

Are you talking about the imperial gallon equivalent to approximately 1.2 U.S. liquid gallons ? That changes the 22mpg US to 26.4 Imperial

I live in the UK so of course I am not using US-specific measures.

Jaguar's official mpg for my car doing what you call highway miles is 30.5 mpg which is nothing like your figure.

Your figures do not make sense to me, especially with the snake oil.
